2015.02.15 PAUL VAN DYK - Brooklyn (pg. 5)

I got my ticket.

6 hours in a warehouse? I'm not expecting much cheese with this. It just doesn't make sense for the setting. The guy played no cheese at Gov Island (I guess 2 summers ago now) but why would this be any different?

I'm sure he read what people were saying at Hammerstein (which was just OK) and knows what we want.

Got my ticket for this. Kind of curious more than excited. I am gonna try to make it all six hours so that I can properly assess the set.

Going along with what Seb and Ay Star said, I think Paul has been walking the line between trying to appeal to the mainstream newer crowd and maintain credibility with the old school trance fans. I have also seen Paul every year in New York since '03 (besides '07 when I caught him in Shanghai) and he hasn't disappointed for the most part. One of the most consistent trance DJ's. Sidenote- Those Summerstage year were fun.

I was curious to what he has been playing recently so I went on youtube and watched several of his sets from the last six months. Most of them were fluff, trouse, commercial, mixed in with some classics and some gems. Watched three different sets and it seemed like Paul wasn't that into it. He didn't seem to have that healthy enthusiasm that you normally associate him with. It looked like he wasn;t having fun. And that's the most important part.

That being said, Paul does have a special relationship with New York City and he knows what people want here. He named a song after it for chrissakes. He is capable of taking you on the most epic journeys (which was mentioned earlier) and seeing as how this is a six hour set, it should be expected that he is gonna seriously throw down. Expect maybe an hour of what some would call cheese or commercial but I doubt the majority of the show will be bad.
Be a cautious optimist.
Hoping to have a blast at this one

Don't be that person that says "omg - I can't believe I missed that"

This is all you need to know about his upcoming show - taken from that article...

"The setting? A secret warehouse, deep within Brooklyn. Forget the special effects—PvD promises the night will take us back to where it once was. “Dark, sweaty, naughty and underground, it’s going to be like it was before…a real ‘New York City’ night,” he continues. “We’re all going longer, later, deeper & darker.”

I got my ticket after a long struggle to get my shift covered for that night.

Is there going to be an opener? Or will he start at 10?
Menaschetrois
10-4 I assume. Whenever he's done 6 hour sets in the past, he has no opener.

Weird. But good, very good. I'd love to be asleep at a somewhat reasonable time.

Hopefully the best western plus arena is a stone's throw away.

Daytime high of 17°, 5° overnight,...ouch! and that's w/o the wind chill.

please please please! Praying that the line to get in is nothing like last year.

Waiting 2 hours in the freezing cold to get into Hammerstein was a disaster...complete show!

Last February - line must have stretched for about 6-8 blocks. Couldn't have been any higher than 10 degrees that night.

So wheres the actual location? Is it at the brooklyn night bazaar??

Apparently Dada Life is playing at a "secret brooklyn warehouse" tonight, and its the same spot PvD will be playing at.
