tracks that would sound inferior without the vocals

Of course, bullet in the gun was another trance track that had no vocals until it was officially released as the Saturday mix. at the end of the day, the Saturday mix will always have profound lyrics that will stand the test of time. As good as the production is with Oakenfold & friends at their apex, the vocals made it stronger.

i prefer the vocal mix of cass & slides perception.

there i said it

Agreed. That's a big one right there.

I wrote some trance lyrics and feel free to use them in your next recording, here it is :

(just imagine the voice of Sarah McClauhuauhclin when you read this)

"Shining oh, so bright /hold my hand let's take flight / don't be afraid of the night / believe in your heart / it starts with you and I......"

(chorus)

"Our love soo deep, like the sea / You're my hidden treasure that lies beneath / Kiss me hello, there's no goodbye / Love will take us high...... you and I LET'S FLY! /

(chorus again)

OK, that's all I got soo far, what do you all think? Hahahahaha.
All kidding aside, these new vocal trance that are coming out is soo damn cheezy it makes my stomach turn and my hair stand up. Oh trance, where have thy gone to? Makes me sad, I shed a tear thinking of years past....... :(

actually i think it works great with or without. lately i've been playing strictly the instrumental, not out of hipsterism, but the track really stands on its own - it's ing epic. i prefer that 'version' now.

i know cass/slide hated the vocal, which i think was inserted by a label bigwig for commercial purposes?

most of us were probably introduced to the track through the vocal version. maybe it would be different if we heard the instrumental first? then again that was in the time vocals when were big - thank you tiesto! and it's not as if the vocals are of the cheesy nature, nice and haunting.

a lot of instrumentals are weak, probably as they were built as vocal tracks.

marco shuttle - vox attitude.

without the vocal the track is completely forgetable.

First thing that came to mind before opening the thread ^^^

if you REALLY think the vocal mix is superior, i honestly think you haven't given the instrumental original a good chance.

without the vocal distraction the murky, spacey, atmospheric track just comes alive. the groove and epic build are laid bare. it's a different beast. the track is meticulously constructed and the outcome is sublime.

DEFINITELY in the top five progressive trance tracks ever made. i can see why cass & slide were pissed about the vocal version.

you should go back and have an uninterrupted headphone session with it.

edit: no excuses :D

youtube quality, but better than nothing if you don't have it (shame on you)

it was good for the first 5 minutes and after that mark, it sounded like it could've used some vocals. that's just my honest assessment.

dear god. that's when the track actually comes into its own :o

it was built as an instrumental. the vocals were inserted after the fact - and without cass & slide's permission.

your mindset thinks it needs vocals because that's what you are familiar with. it doesn't.

It's all about 3tyrants@thebonaparte for me.

On the subject of vocals being added onto tracks, this one was much-maligned back in the day but I still love it and prefer it to the original:

The "Hidden Flight" mash-up is great as well.
