even the ancient greeks, knew that you had to have rituals to get all the chaos and violence out of you............like when they ripped Pentheus from limb to limb, that was a ritual, where they took someone and ripped them apart limb from limb, because it decreases violence overall.

you cant regulate out violence from poeple....it's always there. this is the constant tug between the God Dionysus and Apollo.....Apollo symbolizes order and morality.....peacefulness....Dionysus is chaos drunkeness freedom

in a state of scarcity you have violence.....in times of abundance you have more peace..

like 200 000 years ago, the sealevels were higher and the climate was warmer so there was more farmable land everywhere, so evryone had food, then the ice age happened and the sea level dropped, human population same size but less food.

the ice age happend in a span of like one year.... flash freezing.........see how long you can be Mr. PeaceandLove when you have no food and sabretooth tigers want you for breakfast

It's been 25 years since I was last involved in a brawl. I lost my beetroot sandwich as a result, and we fought over whether Denmark is part of Scandinavia.

That's all I can add to this topic :p

:stongue: oh lira even your physical fights are cerebral.

Everybody knows Denmark is part of Scandinavia so I assume this was just a proxy fight over something else.

Sounds like you took a beeting

3) Jay's "man code" might sound like macho nonsense, but people actually work like that. Kicking someone in the bollocks is a dirty move and by doing it you open yourself up to dirty retaliation. If a guy starts a fight with you and you stop it with a punch in the face, pretty much everyone will interpret that as a fair victory and that you are someone not to be ed with.

A very important consideration if the attacking party has friends.

At Easter dinner last night, I sat in listening to the pair of Great-Grandpas reminiscing about ye' olde times, and scraps somehow came about the in the discussion. Not so much the ones they'd ever been in, but ones they've seen.

A particular story detailed a run-in between a 'town bully' (his words) and some US Army men stationed at the port they lived in the early parts of WW2. Apparently this 'town bully' thought he could make a name for himself if took on one of these soldiers at the local pub, so he provoked them enough for a challenge outside.

Once there, the 'town bully' proceeded to remove his jacket, as was the custom in those days when throwing down in the streets - don't want potential blood staining their fine wears, after all. The soldier didn't care for such Brooklyn-style traditional-whatever rules and quickly landed a gut punch, then another slam to the head as the 'town bully' keeled over. Fight done. Apparently this 'town bully' promptly disappeared from town too.

Moral: don't mess with the Army.

Sort of, but I only know it thanks to the power of hindsight.

It was because this kid's parents wanted him to take the entrance exam for one of Brazil's best schools (the Military School), and they only made him go through this ordeal because I was studying for this exam myself. It wasn't a healthy idea by any account (it left me with gastritis before my tenth birthday), and he wasn't amused. Back then, I imagined Scandinavia was just the Scandinavian peninsula because I made this mistake...

... so I was in the wrong. However, as soon as I said that, the kid reacted as if I had insulted his whole family and attacked me like a raging bull whose balls were about to be chopped off.

Which leads to the last point,

Lira welcome to Fight Club, like it or not you're one of us.

I wouldn't feel so bad. Rather to lose the fight and win the war. On the other matter, I'd not lose sleep over such distinctions. Man has a peculiar habit of placing such false importance to imaginary lines and labels of his making, he's ready to die for.

You've gone all out in your transformation, as you have the irrationality of a woman as well.

Quite the stretch in interpretations here.

Now who is the one being sexist?

OK I posted an extreme example but really where do you draw the line?

it has been in the news over here about a road rage incident in the USA which ended up with two brothers killing a guy at his house, a death because someone had cut someone off..

Who knows what the result of the fight Eric had could have been, the guy who lost could have had a gun in the changing rooms, came out after the game and shot Eric. (again, an extreme example but who knows..)
