No, didn't mean even a melody. Just little something that gives you a sense of direction.
Since we talk about dark and current.
The track you've posted is exactly what I expected. You're prioritising some twinkly top line over the functionality of the track. I don't think 9am is a brilliant track by any means but I can see how it's a very useful track - there aren't enough prog/trance tracks that have energy and momentum without dropping into a massive breakdown halfway through. You need tracks that are vehicles for driving basslines in a set, otherwise "peak time" at a trance night just becomes a procession of two minute gaps between dancing. The "direction" you crave comes from the DJ mix.

i don't see a point in this track. you are talking like we are still on vinyl. this is the digital age.
the dj mix could just as easily provide the 'tool' that this track is said to provide.
maybe it would be good if you had to step out for a piss or something...

I can see how it is useful from your perspective.
That's exactly what I meant. The track is mediocre. In fact it's a filler.

That attitude is why trance is so ing gash these days. You can't just have a bassline and a groove for 6 minutes, heaven forbid.

Exactly. One sucks, the other doesn't.

This. For every dramatic breakdown and climax, you're gonna need three to four pieces like this to lead up with, but the ratio of available material has always been the precise opposite. Even if trance took a dramatic turn for the better, I would still never want to play out wall to wall momentum killers, no matter how good they were as stand alone tracks.

Yep.
I fully endorse eveything system-j has said in this thread.
(i dont know what that counts for. but i guess it counts for something)

not sure if this is new but wasn't this a thing 3-4 years ago ? i don'r really understand the point of minimalism when you aren't really focusing on a groove nd some sort of rhythmic interplay to replace a hook. This one is pretty square.
this was made in 2010
Better production
interesting track despite the lack of melodic elements
I don't really see the point of the track posted if this one was made 5 years ago.
I don't think it would qualifty as filler in that you would typically parse the unicorn stuff with groovy tech stuff which this track dosn't have. I don't really see why someone would play it except that they don't know that it has been done or being done a million times better.
Filler tracks are the most important and hardest tracks to cultivate. I suppose one would have to understand djing for the OP to understand what system j was saying.

Not really a fan of Sean Tyas works but Mirella seems to have more credibility and remembrance then this, Nothing groundbreaking in this work imo, just something to fill up that void of "dark" soliciting trance that is out there for the pass few years

this track does not groove in any way. that's the problem.
tons of tracks have went on for longer without a main hook or riff and stayed interesting. if this was early nalin & kane, no problem. this is dance music at its most mundane however. it wasn't even interesting to begin with, never mind able to keep your attention.
