I don't think I've ever heard those two words used in the same sentence.

Things were VERY different back then. Amazing how much has changed.

Music was MUCH harder to obtain. Finding a liveset was a score. It wasn't uncommon to need connections to get access to the latest ASOT in a timely manner. But at the same time, it all increased the value of the music we obtained.

To think, there are 16 year olds on this site that were literally born when we first showed up.

Anyway, glad you kept the site going swamp. Take it from me, all forums have taken a hit since facebook and social media has risen.

Its also worth nothing people don't have to ASK for music recommendations or locations anymore as its literally thrown at them in services like spotify. Oh the humanity :haha:

This is true but I was always very aware that we were not the first generation for this music; I "grew up" clubbing in the late 90's and what got me in to it was stealing tapes from my older brother in law who had recorded "old" essential selections or got tapes from raves (well they were old to me as they were probably 2/3 years old by the time I got them).

I was essentially listing to music from 92-95 and it had already changed so much (albeit at a slower place than today) by 1997 - Epic house was over, and the dutch trance sound was in full swing, and by 2001....well, we all know how that went.

Getting sets was fairly difficult but getting great tracks wasn't if you lived in a city - I was spoiled for choice in london - my main constraint was money. I couldn't afford that many 5 or 6 quid vinyls at that age but the quality and amount was just abundant. I remember not going to the stores for about 3 weeks and when i went in they had a pile of over 300 tracks for me to go through and I could only afford maybe 10.

It's kinda amazing that TA has weathered the cvanging climate all these years. When i think of where I was when i signed up (Toronto, in school learning Audio Engineering and producing) which today is a whole career I've done, seen through and since left behind and gone on to other things - it seems bizarre that this place is still here. Think about all the buzz sites and programs that have come and gone; myspace, napster, soulseek, emule, aim, morpheus, facebook (yes, it's dead/dying)....but TA is still going.

Lol I saw that but I didn't know if my eyes were playing tricks on me.

I don't use FB much but that's because I don't feel the need to document useless details of my life or likewise view others doing the same.

I still poke my head in every now and then, glad to see this place still up and running

The kids are leaving it. Which is only a good thing in my books.

Obviously it's not going anywhere for a long, long time, but the clickbaiters have declared it dead several times.

Yep, and most of that growth from the 500m mark is 3rd world countries and silver surfers who are just discovering the internet.

The kids aren't even bothering figuring out what FB is. Why do you think FB bought instagram and tried to buy snapchat in 2014 for $3bn when it's actual valuation was $800m?

because they know under 30's don't give a about facebook.

Even my business has abandoned FB advertising as it's just a stream of drivel and really used as little more than a way for people in other countries to keep in touch,

Also, FB has a real problem with decline in people actually posting and more and more content is meaningless reposts:

FB will have it's place but for this and next generation, it's over.

If Facebook is dying, TA must already be fossilised.
