VERY good point about the equipment-not-making-the-DJ observation. lol @ DJ Dawn's equipment, (in a good way) it just shows how admirable the guy can be!

they dont even know what kind of music i spin, but when they hear that i have dex, they're like "hey john, lets go mix"....like its somethin they can pick up instantly.

they have no intention of trying to learn, because they dont even care what style i spin, and they think its as easy as moving a record back and forth (scratchin)

what do u think of people like this?

Just wanted to say that your friends are dip-s.

Personally I don't have any experience with this (yet :)) but this must be one of the best threads I have read in a while !

I disagree.. everyone that gives you a bad time in regards to DJ'ing (e.g. "I'm a better DJ, you don't know what you're talking about, blahblah"), do so because they are jealous and/or want to be better than you (if that's any different, that is). Why even bother trying to reconcile with them? They belong in the gutter along with every other wannabe.... you know where to tell them to go :thepirate

LOL I just remembered that I have a perfect story for this thread! :D

A few months ago when spinning at a house party, a girl was interested in the whole DJ'ing thing and was like, "ooh let me try! let me try!"

It was hilarious from the get-go, but I could see, right off the bat, that it would be impossible to explain why it would be a bad idea (not to mention, "NO; I'm spinning right now!") (I tried  ). "That's not a good idea," I said, "You don't know anything about DJ'ing!" (or of trance, for that matter...)

"Teach me!"

Hahaha!! This was particularly hilarious, as she expected me to "teach" her in a few minutes so that she could "spin." In retrospect, it kind of strikes me of what little regard some people can have for DJ'ing (at least for us non-scratchers), thinking it so easy to do: "duh, you just put on the record and play, then put on another and play it when the first's done." :whip: :whip: :whip:

So after a few minutes of trying to explain how it would be impossible to "teach" her (within even a month!) - all the while trying to pull off transitions - someone else stepped into the picture:

"Hey dude! Stop being so selfish and let her try!"

:wtf: :wtf: :haha: :haha: :haha:

(yeah right, a newbie on MY precious equipment, no way thank you very much)

LOL .. I was like "WTF?" Granted, the guy was a little drunk, so I just laughed - both in exasperation and hilarity

Apart from people interfering - and working hard to keep drunks away from the decks - the set was a success overall (from my standpoint), although no one really appreciated the music (being high-schoolers and all).

Just thought I'd share this gem of a hilarious experience. :D

looks like everybody wanna be a "DJ" now a day:D

for some reason its a common stereotype that DJs just play music and scratch.

High school dances are treated to ty mobile DJs who play whatever the crowd wants and just crossfades between tracks. So, everyone thinks thats what it means to DJ. People don't recognize the lines between mixing, scratching and mobile DJing.

LOL @ allcode!!!!!!! (I'm with you, m8!)
reminds me of the time I used to be a mobile DJ... at every party I see tons of people trying to get into the booth.. lucky I had 2 partners in my crew, that kept the buggers away from me.... it's like, people just come to me and say "hey bro! let me mix!" and I don't even know the guy!!! one time, a 13 yr old came and said that to me, so I'm like "tha hell no!" so he has the nerve to say "awww... come on! don't be an !!! gimme one mix. I'm your bro, ok?"... before he came I was like and :) ... when he started bugging me, I turned into :whip: !!!!
so I started screaming at the guy!! I'm all like "GET THE AWAY FROM ME!!! CAN'T YOU SEE I'M BUSY? YOU'RE PISSING ME OFF!!!!" and he was with 2 friends of his.... also 13 years old... and they started getting mad... so the 3 friends I "hired" to keep buggers away, came out of the booth and scared them away... :D
