| maybe we all should stop arguing, and someone should anwser my question :( I wanted to know what causes people to start smoking cigs, or taking any other possibly/probably addictive drugs(note I'm not saying its necessarily a bad thing, just looking for the reasoning.) |

OK, I assume that all those who say drugs up people's lives are refering to the crack head on the streets and the whores ing for herion money.
Well, yes, ve ed their lives up. But this group makes up about 1% of drug users.
A recent study was done in my home town of GAinesville and 30% of all UF students are estimated to have smoked weed. Thats alot, especially for a college as huge and as prestigious as UF. 25% of the entire town of Gainesville is estimated to have done or be doing some type of drug. And there are not many homeless at all. Not many crackwhores.
Just making the point that the public beleives what they are told.
Did you know that prescription drugs killed more Americans last year than all illegal drugs combined? Did you know that not a single person in history has ever died from Marijuana alone?
And yet the war on drugs is still one of the most important issues why exactly?
Yes, in general drugs are problaly bad. They get people addicted, they make people act differently and sometimes unlawfully and in some cases they are deadly. However in the spectrum of all the things in this world that kill us drugs are on the extreme low end of the spectrum. Not to mention as opposed to many other things drugs affect the individual. It is a personal choice.

When you say that to have an opinion on drugs u have to have used them? if he did that wouldnt that make him a hipcrit?(spl)
And the smoking thing... why ruin ur body and health when you know exactly what you are doing to yourself is harmful?
If someone can answer these without abuse, flaming atc... then id smile.

Btw... i dont care what people do with drugs (E etc...) because its what they want to do, but to do with passive smoking, its something that is damageing other people, i.e. people die through passive smokers. |

I think you gotta remember that he isn;t saying that ur a bad person for taking drugs, or smoking, he wants an explanation. His reasons why he is against these are from seeing through his eyes the effects are.

Thats not really fair because 1) there were probably a lot more people taking a lot more prescription drugs then, illegal or street drugs, and Marijuana won't ever kill you, but it can certantly leed to complications later in life which may kill you (cancer, lung problems etc) |

as for why? -note i will try to make this my last post- :toothless
i think there are a lot of reasons that people start smoking, or doing drugs. i dont think there is a simple answer. one reason is access - over the counter meds, cigarettes, your parents booze, MJ cause it doesnt have an age limit - the list goes on.
drugs, in certain circumstances, do come off as cool to younger people. this may be wrong to believe, but it goes along with all the negative advice that everyone gives. if your parents, school teachers, health officials, etc always told you that origami was bad for you and you absolutely could not fold paper like that the curious individual would want to see what the big fuss is about. the same thing is true with drugs.
people that use them KNOW they are good for you - which is why those cig lawsuits are crap...you are BREATHING FIRE, of course its bad for you.
drugs arent all the same, as many here have said. some are actually safe -as far as drugs go- cannabis is an example. some legal drugs like nicotine are as addictive as heroin.
as far as my own interest is concerned, yah ive used 'drugs' yah i know they are bad for me. do i regret it? no.
i used to think that people were 'bad' who smoked cigarettes, and did all those nasty things when i was a teen. and guess what? my friends drifted away...not necessarily because of drugs, just from association - we didnt have so much in common. when i finally came to my senses and realized that people who smoke werent bad or evil, i started to look beyond the drugs and at the person. and i made friends.
now im not saying that you should do drugs to make friends. and i dont equate one action with the other necessarily. but when you are open, and accepting of what others do to themselves, its easier to look beyond superficial crap like that.
everything we do has a potential health risk - and anyone that thinks TVs, air pollution, automobiles, fast food and all that ISNT as threatening as drugs needs to come to their senses. why are so many people getting cancer? why are some countries dealing with pathogenic epidemics?
the world is PHUCKED up, but its not because of drugs...
plus, if you are so anti drug, avoid music because most people in the industry are 'bad people' if drug use makes you bad| |
