You suck. That's right...you suck....
Sorry for being so forward here, but I have a beef with Mp3 Dj's. First off, they mix Mp3's which sound like on a good PA or Club system.....Second off, Djing on your computer is ing week, unless it's your own songs that you made.....And last but not least....And this is the big one, the one that really gets me goin.....Is that you are killing the scene.....You wannabe Dj's downloading off the net like you deserve it, not supporting anyone....You don't pay for the music, probably not even the software, and who does that support huh? you rip off the Mp3's from the net, the artist/producers don't get paid, the record companies don't get paid, and next thing you know Electronic music starts sounding like again cause wankers downloaded it a never paid a cent for it.....
*disclaimer* If you buy Cds/Vinyl and record to Mp3 and DJ, then nothing wrong with that.....or if you make your own songs and DJ that way...that's cool to.....or if you just make mix cd's for yourself then that's fine.....the people I am targeting are the ones that make money off of other peoples music without paying for it..... *end rant*
*thanks for letting me get that off my chest, I needed to after what I saw last weekend (long story)* |

AMEN !
Ckerr, you just said what's been bugging me for a while now but I didn't want to start stirring ...
MP3 DJing is fine and good as long as you do it at home for your personal use ... as soon as it gets large-scale or ever if money is involved that's where I draw the line. How can you POSSIBLY justify STEALING somebody's work and use it to make money off it.
Stop being such hypocrites and support the artists that you supposedly admire so much. Losers. |

yea, i mix mp3s at home, but only at home
when i'm gettting paid for djing, i'll be mixing vynil or cd's
so far i've never met anyone who will actually mix mp3s at a club or anything like that
the sound quality sucks compared to vynil or cd's
and theres always the chance of the computer freezing
anywho, that's my 2 cents

| Well that means I'm ok then *phew*. I payed for Mixmeister v2.0 and anything I mix as a hobby is ripped from one of MY 100's of import cd's. |

Ckerr812...
ummm...that actually has to do absolutely nothing to do with me I am just saying that I do like mixing mp3's a lot and burning cds with my own mixes with it for my personal use and nobody else's...well actually there's nothing to argue about, thats ur opinion about mp3 djs (how u called'em wankers) I got nothing wrong with that =)

welp
i know mp3 mixing does not require skill at all
e.g. traktor...
though in VTT you might need to know how to use it...
i don't have anything against MP3 DJ's but i don't reall have anything for them.
So I'm neutral..
but hey, it would be cool to hook up your PC and mix MP3's w/ records..
i still have to experiment w/ that. |

My name is FASTDJMP3 but it doesn't mean automatically that i mix mp3s or stuff . Actually i've never done that before because the results u get at the end sounds , but on the other hand i can say that i am a digital dj because i made a lot of stuffs on ReBirh , Fruity Loops and Reason.
By the way , a true dj , not some ing guy who thinks only for the money , creates music for pleasure not for the money or the fame and last but not least , i think that producers and record companies are rich enough. The last time i bought a CD was in summer 1999 , since then i prefer downloading the records that i like from internet instead of paying bucks for a 15 tracks CD.
That's my opinion , respect it just like i respect yours , if u want to insult me , don't do it because i'll simply ignore you , that's it. |

Well, u actually havent started sh*t yet cos no one has disagreed with you...
I do though!
I live in South Africa... know where that is? Do you understand how hard it is to get original materials out here? The CD stores are absolute krap... full of local rubbish that is both cheesy and weak. If you want vinyl youve gotta import the good stuff...
I Dont even own decks so how the hell am I supposed to get the stuff Im spinning on my vtt's ?
If they developed a way I could pay the original artists for their materials trust me I would but right now this si the only way I can get a hold of these tunes.
And yes, I play them at parties and get paid for it! And using the correct setup you can get your mix sounding just like CD... provided your tracks are at a high enough bit rate (anything above 160).
As for freezing PC's, thats what a CD player is for as backup. But so long as you get your OS running smoothly you shouldn't have to worry about it.
Well, thats my input: I dont have any problems with what I do simply because its the only way I can do this! I will hopefully one day invest in decks and move up in the ranks but for a 17 year old student with no income this is a good start.
PLUR :)

I agree, that DJing with stolen music for money is a wrong thing. but, no offence but you are only directing this to MP3 Djs (probably because you are closed-minded about mp3-djing in general), but wtf about the DJs using CDs with mp3s burned to them? Its the exact same thing, just different interface.
What Peekay mentioned, where the music might be too expensive for some areas... It's easier for a DJ in europe (or whereever the music costs relativly cheap) to say you should pay (really you should), but I bet when you live in an area where the music is hardtoget and unreasonably expensive- its easier said than done. This doesnt apply to me tho, I live in Toronto.

Yes there are cheesy programs like Traktor, MjStudio, BPM studio, etc etc which people use for "Djing". W/VTT however (here i go about VTT again!)... using it to mix manually with the jogwheels and pitch sliders alone requires some skills. But alas, too many people put down the software because of it's age and lack of "c00l" bpm features.

Oh do tell us about some wanker getting paid to do mp3-DJing. |

To Peekay and FASTDJMP3 ... boo-frickin'-hoo ... c'mon cry me a river. There's other ways to obtain vinyl other than local record stores (*cough* juno.co.uk *cough* bangingtunes.com *cough*). And YES, i know where South Africa is, actually I've talked to some people from there ... as far as I know you have quite the healthy scene there. Too bad there's idiots like you who'd rather leech off it than contribute to it.
And Peekay, you keep contradicting yourself ... just look at your post :
| quote: | | And yes, I play them [MP3s] at parties and get paid for it! |
| quote: | | ... but for a 17 year old student with no income ... |
How about you save up some of that oh-so-hardearned money and spend it on a pair of decks and records instead of stealing MP3s and spending the money on your pathetic self ? You probably aren't quite aware what you're doing but one day you'll open your eyes and see how people like you are destroying the scene from inside. And please don't pull the "poor starving student" story ... I'm in the same situation and I EARN the money for my gear and vinyl ...

You're SO talking out of your ass. The vast majority of electronic music labels are very small ventures and are financed by the artists themselves. They can't afford to lose sales (unlike the big labels - ie. Sony and the likes). By pirating their music you are DIRECTLY harming the people who make and distribute it, making it unprofitable for them to continue doing what they're doing. Do you seriously think that the artists shouldn't get a compensation for their work ? Do you think that their bills are getting paid by ther love for music ? Get real - there's absolutely no excuse for stealing music from the artists you say you admire so much. Last time you bought a CD was in 1999 ? And you're proud of that ? Wow !
Get a damn job and buy your music, you spoiled brats ! |

Skywarp.
Dood, does it sound like I make a lot of money doing "parties" ?
The last party I did was about 2 months ago and got paid 500 bucks for it.
If the average mixer is 1500... that means I'll be able to afford it in about 6 months at this rate...
If a pair of decks are about 3000 thats about a year away... woah , look at that.
So until I purchase those Im going to have to make my money somehow!
And yes, the scene is good down here, whats that got to do with availability?
Till I own some decks you shouldn't really lecture me about purchasing vinyls! |
