| Horrible tragedy. Feel so empty inside... kinda like when I read about the 1986 challenger tragedy |

ya, but it's stupid to even consider it in this case. The shuttle was way too high for any sort of terrorist attack.
The shuttle was built in '79; it's using 15+ year old technology. Nasa has developed the successor to the shuttle's we're all used to, but "someone" decided that it would be too costly and decided it saves money to use 20-year old equipment  |
Right on pete!!
Terrorist attack? thats just lol'able. In the last few days CNN had 3 "breaking news" stories. First was the Pharmacutical factory, the Miami Postal Hijacking and now the Shuttle explosion. In all 3 the reporters on CNN had to make specific mention of terror attacks.
First off to be aware of the possiblity of attack is cool and understandable. But to ellude to terrorist attacks b4 ANY facts are available is just a ploy to strike more fear into the people - too keep it in the forefront of our minds.
THIS IS A TRAGEDY. RIP to the Astronauts and condolences to their faimilies. But to create larger issues over already tragic events not only is a misrepresentation of the news but a slap in the face to those directly affected.
And clear something up for me.. how is it a black day for Isreal? I know one of the Astronauts was Isreali but considering that a terrorist attck is VERY unlikely it is to be considered a Tragic event. |

| It was the first thing I saw on TV when I woke up - I was very shocked. It's very sad - my guess is that it was structural failure |

Soooo unfortunate...God bless the families..
But, I know that this was NOT a terrorist attack, impossible.
Coincdentally, Chalenger blew up on the 28th of January, and in 1967, the Apollo 1 fire that killed 3 astronauts was on the 27th..:( :( :( |

It's possible it was an act of terrorism, if one of the workers on the ground station deliberately manipulated something that screwed up the flight, to fight Israel and the US...
But anyway, I don't think this is likely, probably a mechanical error caused this...
It is indeed a tragedy. Our prayers and thoughts are with the relatives of these astronauts. |

a fitting poem that is read at the funeral of every USAF pilot:
"High Flight"
Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or even eagle flew -
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand and touched the face of God.

I also think that this shows that Space Travel is not advanced enough to send ppl into it everyday etc |
Not really. People die every day in car crashes. Does that mean they are not advanced enough? Accidents happen... sad though. :(
And "High Flight" is beautiful. |
