industrial and death metal are nothing alike. not only do they have a completely different focus (lyrically, emotionally), but the music (sound-wise) is also completely different, different instruments, different styles, pretty much everything that could possibly be different about two genres is true in the case of death metal vs industrial.
thats like me saying i dont like rap because its too much like progressive house. |

yes, but fear factory merged the two.
as far as goth, i listen to: death metal, black metal, doom metal (just a little, though), industrial, classic goth, gothenburg/death, dark trance, nu-metal (if any of it can even be considered goth), and grindcore. |

| I like my odd bit of EBM/Metal,even tho the whole goth image doesn't really appeal to me.Stuff like Slayer,Terria,Dream Theater,Front 242,Apop's old stuff,Nitzer Ebb etc. are among my favourites. |

i think it would be a *very* large stretch to say that fear factory, even in "soul of a new machine" days, was death metal. maybe on that side, but they sound(ed) nothing like cannibal corpse, deicide, nile, any death metal.
i do agree that they successfully merged metal and industrial, to some extent. obselete, as far as im concerned, is one of my favorite albums of all time. demanufacture is badass as well.
but i still think comparing industrial to death metal is just silly.
*vomits all over nu-metal*
*edit*
ok, thinking back to it, i guess there were some songs on soul of a new machine which sounded pretty death metalish. but id say as a whole, fear factory has always done a very good job in keeping farm away from the norm of any genre they are classified in. (with the exception of the last album they put out which was utter nu-metal crap.. what was with the rap song?!) hell, it says something if i liked them back then, i hate death metal with a passion ;) |

Another thought on this issue:
Being as open-minded as I find myself to be,it is virtually impossible to escape the metal scene here in Norway, when you consider how succesful and popular it is.People like Dimmu Borgir,Emperor,Red Harvest,Borknagar,Immortal and Satyricon are just a few of the bands that already have carved a niche for themselves internationally, and new talent is consistently popping up in all parts of my home country.Hence, the chance of finding something I like is a lot bigger. |
