hi b0bb0 u posted before me, so didnt see ure message... anyhow, my freind in the states loves rap, and ive just recently got him inot trance, he loves it :) but he had me listen in return to some of his fave rap artists, and they all sound the same?... they just sound the same to me, dont they to most of u?... sure trance mostly has the same skeleton... thump thump thump, but trance has an endless range of creativity... vocals or not! but from what my friends had me listen to, they all have the same music ... (or tpe of old music) in the background whilst a guy raps a bunch of nonsense that i cant even understand..... perhaps if they were SLOWER so u could undertsand them, and if they did more effects to it other then just plain stupid man pitting out poety then yeah, maybe it would be good..... and im sure all ure gonna do is bite back saying, yeah, well that isnt underground stuff u heard... yeah, it might not have been, but look at the commercial trance stuff?... trance being played over the adio doesnt nesessarily mean its commercial... hell, they had Fridge - Angel on te charts at one point i think, but was that ever commercial? it still is considered to be underground in a way!.. so if he had me listen to stuff from the radio and things, doesnt nesessarily means that commercial does it?... so in contrast Fridge was on the radio and isnt considered commercial but still is underground'ish... so the stuff he had me listen to was from the radio which is concidered commercial to some ppl... which in some case is underground as well..... (and im sure the lot of u could have said that in five words, but i just suck at trying to explain something...lol!)
anyhow!... if ya didnt understand, just pretend u did

hehe thanks b0bb0. :D

man yevat, that's a lonng post! lol. rap does have it's commercial shizit, but so does every other kind of music out there. some people like the commercial sound, some people like the more secluded underground sound. *shrugs* whatever floats your boat.

i mean i know guys that LOVE the rap music industry because of all the bling bling , with all the girls and money and nice cars. the image basically. but there are a lot of friends who are totally opposite of that, who respect the artists' message in their music. the essence you can say.

so it's all good. just pick your sides and don't knock on the other unless you've been on that side and have something worthwhile to say. :)

LMFAO... thats very true... "i mean i know guys that LOVE the rap music industry because of all the bling bling , with all the girls and money and nice cars. " HEHEHEHE
anywas, i just got that track u wanted m to get.. (dont remember who it was)
'a tribe called quest - electric relaxation'
and it sounds slightly different from the really commercial crap, but the thing that annoys me the most in it is the music in the background... i would think they could be a bit more creative then the old 60 style music...lol
and sorry if i made anyone enraged enough that they wanna come and stab me with toothpicks and stuff, so blah.

about the too fast thing ... yevat

smoke some chronic or somethin u will hear the words

but i can understand the words and recite the words to almost any outkast song(they rap kinda fast)even some bone songs but they are a lil too fast hehe

the "bling-bling" thing .. i guess most of u dont understand but some of that is coo.
i wish i had a lexus(yota) sc 430 hardtop convertable v8 with some dubs on it
dont you?

too comercial? does that make a song or genre bad? im sick of everyone hatin on thats popular just cuz its popular

if u wanna stay underground and unknown(as far as your music tastes) then go beat on some pots and pans or somethin
i promise that wont make it to the dreaded radio and mtv!

I've been in trance music for around 6 years now and I do love it but Rap...well nowadays I hate it big time, it's cheesy, corny and cux baaad. but when I was a really youg one (9 or 10) I used to like it .....eeeeeewwww but then a gain it goes like that
Linx_da_cat
agreed b0bb0. i mean just because a song is commercial doesn't mean it's bad. i'll use a reference to trance here, dj jean's raindance is nice. i like it. so what? you might not like it. opinions. :) i like outkast's style (what's that song called? bombs over baghdad? or something?) yeah that's kewl tune.

oh there's nothing wrong with the bling bling or the more underground . doesn't make a difference to me, if i can relate and/or feel what the artist is trying to say (in soul/jazz/rap/hip-hop genres, that's how i tend to 'like' a song) then i'll most definitely like it. if i can't, doesn't mean i won't either tho. :)

okay i'm rambling. peace.
b0bb0
i always say i dont like genres of music

i just like good songs and talented artists

if i dont like a song i will give credit to the artist for a good song even if its like rock or whatever ..dont listen to much rock/alternative

outkast is the best man

dload outkast - rosa parks
outkast - atliens
outkast - wheelz of steel (for u djs)

"smoke some chronic or somethin u will hear the words" hahahah nifty!
and as for cars, ivent a in clue about any cars... im to dumb....in my opinion though, most of the reallllly expensive cars look rediculous compared to the cheap ones... but dont shout at me for that opinion please...lol!
Linx_da_cat

after reading all of those replies I just had to give my input on the discusion.I thank rap sucks clack but let me explain why .I used to listen to both east coast and west coast and am familiar with mostly every type or rap hip hop or whatever you want to call it. in those years that I wasted my life tripping on stupid beats by Tupac or woo tang clan, when I could've been out raving having the best time of my life. I cant rap worth crap either but visit really worth it when most of the time rap is always about drugs, gangs or violence. although sometimes it is alright to listen to I could invert stand it for a lengthy 15 hours straight like at a rave, maybe some ppl can but I doubt it. anyhow img not going to go out like that, there is some rap/hip hop out there that I loved but not anymore. I think you just grow out of it, I got tired or hearing it. try doing freaking shrooms on it , it will be the last time you do ,its just negative . but I ain't going to go out like that for those of you who like rap hey more power to you but this is a sensitive topic. the struggle for music genre superiority is a never-ending battle. peace out pasta la vista and all that good

without getting personal on this...
One can draw conclusions on an industry from its artists and it's audience.
Artists, are negroes who grew up on the 'rough' streets and who sing about how rough they had it, there's nothing wrong with that until you tie it to the audience.
Audience= 90% of sales are white, suburbian teenage boys.
I don't see how a white kid living in suburbia Anyplace, could relate to living on the streets.
Hence, the point that this is an artificial industry, there is no real connection point.
One appreciates art, by relating to it, or by recognizing it's significance, music=art, how can one appreciate the 'art' of hip-hop, if one can't possibly relate to the theme of rap, or appreciate it's importance because teenagers don't understand the theological importance of epressing one's anguish with a prior situation in life.
That's the REAL artistic merit in rap, and this type of rap only accounts for a minority of the rap that exists, the majority is useless drivel spouting the objectifying of women, and money they don't really have, feeding the wannabes.
This directly ties in to many people here, easily noticed by the way you talk (type in this case), using rap associated slang, only verifies that you're a wannabe, because you did not live in the environment that pushed this slang over you, you simply adopted it to look 'cool'.

That's the bottom line
