hmmm im not priveleged of a direct responce.. so i guess your use of the word you is in reference to someone else.
| quote: | | However, assumptions are self-destructing in any way shape or form, first of all, you haven't proven that 90% of people that buy RAP albums aren't white males. Since I work in the Music Industry and have access to the demographics information for a lot of genres and you don't, you're fighting an uphill battle to prove otherwise, although you can simply dismiss it and continue on in ignorance. |
i havent proven it because i dont think it is something that can be proven. and you havent proven that 90% of people that buy RAP albums are white males. so please show me some of your demographics. just because you say you have proof doesnt prove anything.
| quote: | Furthermore, your personal attacks were uncalled for, and just plain common.
FYI- streetwise=possessing the skills and attitudes necessary to survive in an often violent urban environment
common sense=sound and prudent but often unsophisticated judgment
streetwise!=common sense, maybe in your head they do, but in the place where our society decides to explain the words we use, called the Dictionary does not agree to you even though it doesn't have an opinion. |
show me the personal attacks. please. im not gettin personal. i couldnt care less about attacking you. im just showing my views of some of the things you have said.. and calling you ignorant.. well ummm your comment on i guess racism only works one way was very ignorant. and thats just one. get over yourself.. people make ignorant statements all the time. FYI.. dude i know definitions.. sorry my 'slang' use of the term street smarts was too hard for you to understand. quit trying to teach english here. i think i know it well enough to get my point across. and my point did get across cause you knew what i meant and you then proceeded to correct me on my choice of words. i am going to ASSUME thats to make yourself look smarter. and for someone trying so hard to teach english maybe you shouldve learned how to read before posting this:
| quote: | For me, this discussion isn't about RAP Sucks vs. RAP is Awesome, as you so continuously try to portray it, it's about its value as an ART form, and emotions, personal grudges have nothing to do with it.
Of course, I don't expect you to have the presence of mind to understand that, but one can only hope. |
as i so continuously try to portray it.... i must really be mistaken about you directing that comment towards me cause you would never make that mistake now would you? im am not and have not even touched on the subject of rap music as an art form. i decided when i first read this thread i was not getting involved with that. thats something you could argue till you are blue in the face and im not going to. and you can go ahead and doubt i dont understand what you are saying there but i understand it to the fullest and i agree 100% this thread was not about RAP Sucks vs. RAP is Awesome. i am actually confused as to where that whole comment has anything to do w/ me and why i wouldnt understand it.. so could you please explain? |

Layla...i think u should just forget about this dink. My personal opinion is that he's a fruitcake who just wants to get on here and show how smart he is by using his big gay words, making him sound like some genius philosopher.
Thats my opinion!!

"you" also enjoys a plural sense to it; meaning, more than one person, I believe only 2 of my sentences were directed to you, personally.
| quote: | | i havent proven it because i dont think it is something that can be proven. and you havent proven that 90% of people that buy RAP albums are white males. so please show me some of your demographics. just because you say you have proof doesnt prove anything. |
If you think it can't be proven, then why did you say: there is no way it is possible for 90% of the people who listen to rap are white. You would then be doing what you are accusing me of doing.
| quote: | | show me the personal attacks. please. im not gettin personal. i couldnt care less about attacking you. im just showing my views of some of the things you have said.. and calling you ignorant.. |
Ok, first of all, let's start with: im not getting personal. You showing your views in regards to some of the things I've said is getting personal.
Proof of personal attacks:
Exhibit A: you dont know about rap and nor the black community so you can take your FACTS and put them where they came from.. your ass..
Exhibit B: i cant wait for you to quote me so i can get some of the same enjoyment from you that i get from eminem.. good laughs... cept i would never think about paying you for it.
| quote: | | ummm your comment on i guess racism only works one way was very ignorant |
I think you got that the other way around; I have a great deal of knowledge about racial issues in the United States of America. Including an issue named, Political Correctness, whereas it is less protested when a Black person commits a racial act, compared to a white person. That is a whole issue onto itself, but you are in no position to call anybody ignorant; because A) you did not know what exactly I was talking about, you were ASSUMING again, and B) I fail to see what extra curricular knowledge in issues of racism, puts you in a position to call me ignorant on it.
| quote: | | i think i know it well enough to get my point across. and my point did get across cause you knew what i meant and you then proceeded to correct me on my choice of words. |
I deducted what you were trying to say, that still doesn't rectify the situation that street smarts != common sense, and that your whole point about rappers having an extra dose of life experience is non-existen, and that is because they are thugs. (More info can be provided, on request.)
| quote: | | i must really be mistaken about you directing that comment towards me cause you would never make that mistake now would you? |
Bitter sarcasm; yet again that was the collective "you". |

| ok youve given me nothing constructive to argue about. i didnt make my first post to start a debate on how i word my incomplete unpunctuated mixed together sentences. you have yet to directly reply to most of the points i made in my first post. and you have yet to prove something you say you can prove. this conversation has gone very astray from why i responded to this thread in the first place. im over it. its pretty much pointless now. |

christ...Im not so sure I wanna get in on this. I am a white male and like rap as well as Trance. Now trance comes ahead by a hell of alot, but I still love Dre, Tupac, Snoop and good rappers like Bone Thugs(probly the only rappers why can actually sing) Not all rap sucks, but lots of it does. R&B is kinda weak, but Snoop n Dre rule tha rap scene.

People would listen to rap lyrics and understand they are not meant to be carried out, unfortunately that is not the case. Some people look up to these people as role models, instead of realizing that they should try and better their life. Most kids are young and impressionable and look up to entertainers (rappers etc.) for knowledge and experience, this is where I feel rap fails, luckily i am the type of person that chose other role models and realized that all the negativity is a form of expression, now if i were growing up in the projects and surrounded by what is expressed in these lyrics, it is very possible that I would consider rappers as a role model, this is truly unfortunate because instead of bettering their lives they follow a path which is purely destructive and degrading. If u take these lyrics and lifestyles with a grain of salt then this music is purely for enjoyment, but this is not the case for many young kids who don't have a father or family to teach them right from wrong, instead they use Jay-Z as their role model and try to follow a lifestyle which, in my opinion, is weak and lacks class, an attribute which is all but forgotten in todays society. With that said I would rather listen to Nice & Smooth than some of these newer artists who can only make money by being as extreme as possible.
Oh yeah..Now SHUT IT!

man i had a long post written last night, but the boards went down. Lucky i didnt get a chance to make your overeducated (yes over) ass recognize
all i gotta say is .. we are talkin bout listeners not demographics u peen boy .. i dont care who buys the records i care bout who listens to them and its not 90% white
2nd of all i dont care how i type this a message board on the net not my english paper
last of all i was sitting there today listenin to some trance i threw in the outkast .. listened to about 20 songs .. not once did i hear a negative vibe .. no talk of doing drug(pot is not a drug and half of outkast dosent smoke) violence or hoes or bling bling
so dont generalize rap by the VERY VERY few songs u've heard that can back you up
anscoop you are a tool , a sheep, a robot , another pea in the pod .. just another lil toy .. u got me with the "americans do not conform to universal standards" haha thats some funny .. guess thats why most people in the world wish they lived here .. thats why canadian culture has so much american influence? ohhhhhh how old are u btw? |

I love rap.... I've been listening to rap a LOT longer than I have trance music. There's been a lot of rap out lately (i.e. NO LIMIT SOLDIERS) and stuff like that. 2pac and Notorious B.I.G., u gotta admit are two of the best out there... people listen to diff. kinds of music. I listen to rap, trance, R&B, classical and rock. There's nothing wrong w/ rap.
And to those of you who complain about how rappers are in their videos.... i totally agree. Just because they came from the "ghetto" and lived "a hard life" doesn't give them to excuse to go buy chrome out their cars and platinuminize (put platinum in) their mouths. I mean, if they care so much about their hometown and like that, they should be donating to the schools and after-school programs and stuff like that. Not buying out MATERIALISTIC things and bragging about it and showing it off. GIVE SOMETHING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY.
So bottom line...... i love rap. :)
flame me or whatever. i dont care |
