is this maybe due to your illegal download of promos which are only to be supposed to promote tracks by DJ's?
all of these tracks are quite new, you even can'r purchase many of them yet... |

cd1: decent tracks...horrible flow...darren tate vs jono grant - let the light shine in...couldn't have picked a more inappropriate position on this cd for it...DJ Tiesto - Nyana is a very nice song coming from Tiesto  ending it with Mistral, brilliant :P
cd2: better tracks, better flow...Andain into Solarstone vs Sirocco into Young Perisians was very nice ... Nothing (93 Returning Mix) didn't fit in too well I thought...The Roc Project, terrible song imo...
I'd give this a 7/10 |

Time will tell that this is Tiesto's highest quality and most sophisticated mix compilation ever. I've listened each CD like 20 times and can't get enough of them.
Whoever says that CD1 has no flow....buahahahahhaha. You sure don't know your Tiesto. As someone that has seen Tiesto spin 4 times in 2003 alone, I can guarantee you that this is a very accurate representation of the "harder" points of his sets nowadays. See, Tiesto is the best trance dj out there for a reason, his creativity and innovation make him stand out. Let Ferry, Armin and all those lesser trance djs stick to the old stale formula, Tiesto always is the revolutionary artist of the bunch. The flow couldn't be any more perfect imo, Tiesto has this gift for in-key modal mixing that makes all of his mixes so much more musical than anyone else's. Maybe you don't understand what I'm talking about if you have no knowledge of music theory and counterpoint, but basically that Tiesto has a talent for doing harmonic/melodic contrasts in terms of chord progressions that give his whole set a linear narrative of musicality not mastered by anyone else in the trance genre. The CD1 builds up the way it's supposed to build in his style nowadays with no flaws at all.
The initial techno tracks create a very banging intense ambiance that would make everyone dance their ass off and Tiesto is able to maintain that intensity throughout the CD leading up to the climax in Nyana, a gem of a track that evokes the magik of the good ol' days but gives light to what the future of the genre is all about with its genius fusions of contemporary techniques.
If you don't like techno mixed with trance the way Tiesto does it then I'm sorry to tell you that Tiesto is too sophisticated for your taste and maybe you should consider moving on to the fluffier, predictable and formulaic djs that dominate the electronic dance music genres. Techno into trance works perfectly here because Tiesto has the ability and artistic insight to pull it off, and it works! For example, the transition from tech into trance starts in Obsession Frank Biazzi remix (a very "uplifting" techno track in that the buildup is simply amazing) which Tiesto mixes very smoothly into Totem, a more melodic but still tech-based track. Totem flows seamlessly into Let the Light Shine In, a total uplifting trance stormer. There's no going back after that. Inca-Nyana-Venus-Tears from the Moon-Electronic Malfunction-Love Angel-Urban Shakedown and the ultimate soothing comedown with Mistral. Pure bliss if you ask me, it never goes wrong.
What else can be said about CD2 Indoor? All the tracks in it are future classics and Tiesto mixes them in the uplifting "magik" style he's known for, but with that more sophisticated edge that defines the Tiesto of 2003. It simply amazes me how Tiesto successfully avoids all the cheese that permeates the trance scene today and is able to make a compilation of pure quality. Even the vocal tracks are among the best vocal tracks you could come up with: Beautiful Things, Nothing, As the rush comes, Never: Not a single hint of cheese, all are very classy vocals. You can't get more uplifting than the last two tracks, Remember and North Pole.
Yeah, so most of the songs are old but keep in mind that Tiesto mixed this CD months ago. Anyhow, most people out there don't download every track there is like us TAs do. I don't really care, whenever Tiesto releases a mixed compilation it means that all of the tracks will acquire another meaning as they are preserved for eternity. Tiesto's mix compilations get better with age and time like fine wine because of this dj's impeccable taste. You can tell he mixed this in live turntables as he does all of his CDs (even if the mix had to be edited later), giving the mix that authentic live human feel throughout the mix. Compilations by djs such as Armin and Ferry get old and stale after a couple of months because they are pretty superficial and mundane, missing that extra "high-art" touch that Tiesto can give to any mix. Good job Tijs, keep it up! :) |

Cd1 + cd2 has no flow!
It's just a bunch of tracks mixed together without a story around it.
Disk 1 starts to flow 20 min before the end...other then that it's a nice mix to listen to some nice tunes, but a flow....only at the end for me!
LONG LIVE PROG! |

bah, it's all in the eye of the beholder. you just don't wanna listen to the very obvious flow that both cds have. especially cd2 is a masterpiece in terms of melodic progressions: it goes from I to IV to vii to v7 etc etc and finishes back in a I. It's just beautiful. most djs can't even dream of doing that. |

This is in reply to this post, and the long one on the other page too.
I think you're incredibly concieted. I don't care what kind of musical theory Tiesto used, i know a bad transition when i hear one, and there's more than a few of those on both CD's. How can you say CD 1 has good flow? Up until 'Let the Light Shine In' its good, but that tune is just painful to the ears after all that techno. No transitioning, whatsoever. Midway - Inca is even more out of place, plus Tijs really fouled up that transition. the CD really only gets good for me after Venus, and i mean AFTER Venus, and BEFORE that terrible frank biazzi remix. But he even left the best part of Totem out.. even though it would have been really out of place, it wouldnt have changed things much.
CD has some of the best track selection i think anyone could envision, except for that ugly filterheadz remix. The pattern in which he plays them is all wrong though, imo. a good mix should build intensity, or build it down, or at least make the tunes blend with one another. Tijs does neither. if that is complicated and breakthrough music, than i DON'T like it. reminds me of modern art, its supposed to be all fancy and sophisticated but its really just a piece of . having said that, i still like Nayan, but only for the track selection. This is not intended as a bashing post by any means, just a retort to Dj Pio's deification of Tiesto. |

this album is utter crap, with all you tiesto sack riders he could have released a polka remix album and you'd still love it.
dont get me wrong i loved ISOS1 & 2 and the early MAGIC series CDs but lately tiesto has been a HUGE disapointment... |

lol, that says it all. modern art is ? give me a break. that's one of the saddest comments i've ever heard on TA. it's pretty sad because if it weren't for modern art music we wouldn't be here probably, but that's a whole different story and off topic.
Anyways, you call me conceited but can't really counter the facts and the opinions that i elaborated on. Wow, good for you.
Let the light shine in works perfectly fine after Totem, the transition into it is a very refreshing contrast and that's what Tiesto's mixing skills are all about(creating contrasts). He even creates a striking harmonic dissonance in the transition that gives me goosebumps everytime i listen to it.
I agree that he's not the most skilled in beatmatching as I never said he was, but for me there are other (and more important) qualities that make up what mixing skills are all about. I won't get into all the theoretical jargon again because people don't understand and call me conceited, but sorry, i'm a trained classical musician and that's how I think. I can't really help it, and it's not my fault that you don't understand.
You call Obsession (Frank Biazzi mix) and Never (Filterheadz rmx) horrible tracks, but they happen to be two of my favorite tracks in the whole compilation. I can't get enough of them.
I'm not idolizing Tiesto at all, i disliked Summerbreeze and In My Memory and quite a few of his sets both live and mp3 livesets. I just honestly thought that this compilation is a masterpiece from start to finish. Sue me for having an opinion. Trance is music, music is art. Art appreciation is subjective, everyone's entitled to their opinion. I respect yours and really don't care if you like this CD or not. But insulting me doesn't really counter my arguments since you're only saying that you don't agree because you don't know what I'm talking about. Peace. |

I kind of agree that Tiesto fans are blind in their love for him sometimes. I'm like that too once in awhile....I was ardently defending this CD before it even came out and now that I've heard it....well....bah. It's good but nothing great. I'll buy it and listen to it once in awhile, but it doesn't come close to touching my emotions and improving my mood (aka bringing a smile to my face) and wanting me to dance like the Magiks, Summerbreeze, ISOS, etc.
I hope he just goes back to the Magik Series and does #8 for 's sake! That's what most of us want! |
