| A hip hopper friend, started criticizing "my music" as being so repetitive... i replied by telling him to take the lyrics away from a rap song and you got the same thing...he blatantly denied it, saying "nah guy it's not the same, it's not repetitive...":rolleyes: :rolleyes: |

Even so, repetitiveness is what makes trance so much better, esp. the deeper forms of trance.
But yeah about the thread...the other day I was listening to Daft Punk's EM and some guy walks into my room and says "What is that? A techno song with a speech played in it?" And I responded "Well actually they're playing a house piece over Martin Luther King's speech..."
What pisses me off the most though isn't when people tell me I'm listening to techno (although sometimes I do listen to it, but not too often), what REALLY pisses me off is when they continue to refer to all of my music as "techno" (or in some cases "trance" after I've told them I was listening to trance...which I was, at the time:rolleyes: ). Umm...where was I going? Oh yeah, it pisses me off when they continue to refer to it as such when it isn't, and after I've explained the large genre is called electronica.
With some people I've just given up....
Them: "That's a cool techno song"
Me: (thinking)*ing dumbass....*
Me: "Yeah, I really like it" |

most people i know, know that there's a diff between techno and trance. but then again, they all think it goes like "dum dum didum ..." -> repetitive stuff with a hard beat.
in the beginning i started to get mad and tried to explain what good trance was, and... well i still do actually. i didnt really converted people yet, but i made lots of people open their eyes with rank1 - symsonic. :eyes: :eyes: :eyes: =)

yeah seems like almost every other party i got to nowadays you walk in and it's "Go Shorty It's your Birfday" ten mitutes later "Go Shorty It's your Birfday" then it gets changed to someting else and once again "Go Shorty It's your Birfday" god i feel like slaping people sometimes. I greatly enjoy going to partys throw in some of my trance and even some house cd's and theres always people that bitch like crazy but it seems like most of the ladies get down and enjoy it. And you gotta keep them happy. |

most people i know, it doesn't matter if it's Crystal Method, PVD, or f**kin DJ Sammy, it's all techno, and i'm not about to waste time teaching the difference on people that aren't even gonna be open to it. |

I get sick off all people who think they know everyting but they are soooo wrong.
Next time if you got into a fight about the techno/trance stuff.
Just download Lars Klein - Sweat or Sven Witteking - Braindeath.
Let the ing basterd listen to the hard banging hitting Techno tracks with 95dB max and they will know what real Techno is.

It's frustrating as hell...
And being an american teenager (going to a public high school where most people listen to *in my mind its ....they need to hear 'in da pub'*) makes it even less likely for me to find people that love trance. Partly why I am moving to europe once i get out of school. Probably going to try to major in german...
Eventually I get it through my head that it doesnt matter what they think of the music i love. It makes me happy, so screw them. Basically.
It IS a shame people can't be more open minded. I got one friend of mine, everyday about he says to me that trance is meditation music and it has heavy beats AND that get this- BJORK is the best example of trance....is that NOT disturbing?

think its wrong just to say f*ck them.
if you mix up techno with trance then you're seriously wrong. think a lot of people just hate techno as it is rather repetitive (imo too), but then they dont know trance.
so they need to be thaught its something totally different. if you're dealing with a-bit-openminded people you just let him/her hear some classic trance tunes. think its worth a try.
On the other hand when you're dealing with shortsighted ones it's idd rather hard to explain it all.
well it needs a little patience i think. i just think there is no need in flaming someone when they generalize it as 'techno'.
hm but then again, there are people on this board who intend to flame on everyone who listens to something she/he doesnt like...
well thats a bit off topic now... but thats just my 2cents.
