I just went over to the USA a couple days ago to pick up Nyana, Its not released over here yet, so I went into a CD store, and I picked up the Dj Tiesto cd, in the "Techno" section, I just shook my head..

Here, the average idea people have about trance and techno here is:
" A bunch of drug addicts listening to BOOM BOOM BOOM music. Every1 listening to techno is a racist, a facist, a nazi, a skinhead"

MAN, They are SOOO wrong. I'm not on drugs! I'm on trance!
People don't know what techno is... I mean, i heard even worse things than
quote:
Only cool techno song is that one that remixes the tetris theme.

I heard: "jan wayne with becuz the night belongs to lovers" Is the best techno song ever made

I mean, 1) It's an awfull song
2) Its no techno
3) It's evil pop
4) Short after launching this track, the record company (that as Bonzai), had to stop 'cuz of debts...

When I heard that, i practicly exploded...

i should make a website explaining the difference between techno and everything else with sounds clips and crap

Luckily my friends call what I listen to trance, but since they dont really know what it is I told them to refer to it as electronic music. I just feel safer that way.

Guys I don't think this thread was intended to be an American Bashing thread. It was written by an American, he was complaining about the situation in his home town. The same thing happens here in Canada and people have complained in our forum about the situation here too. I think the point is that we don't really know what it's like in other places, so we really can only bitch about what we do know. :)

Hope that made sense... I haven't slept much. :p

YOu can honestly blame the "techno" word on the idiots of the North American media. If you think back hard enough, the introduction of post dance mix '92 music and then Prodigy's work and Crystal Method's Vegas is the cause. All those releases to mass public and the beginning of radio play for those artists gave way to the real new "electronic music age". I was told in the TA forums before that trance was made ffirst moslty in Germany and then spilled into EUrope and the worldwide. It took people to be unique and to search for trance to become trance.

Meanwhile, the North American media needed a name for the "new" electronica that was sweeping the radiowaves...they called it "techno" (short for technological music of course).
So you can't blame everyone for ignorance....you can blame them for listenning to the media crap they keep feeding themselves everyday.

that's my take, and an educated one at that.

On the side... who cares!!!! long live trance forever as a lesser known untouched-by-mass-media genre!!!!

How true this is...when I am able to find another job one of the first things I'm doing is purchasing a fine tuned system for my car :) It's amazing how all these people think rap is the best genre for insane car stereos, if only I can find people willing enough to give drum & bass a try and they shall see the light *grin*

Most "Americans" are not open minded enough to even give electronic music a try...

"most americans"??? you are right as far as my experiences as far as people that i know not even willing to listen and try to enjoy trance or if they wanna call it techno, what ever the , but i think that it's probably the same in lots of other places but trance has been around in other countries longer so it's excepted more other places.
