I moved to prog because I was bored of trance and all the ty mainstream sounds. And I like the fact that it isn't mainstream at all, it's a nice surplus. Hope it stays like this. |

the worst thing is as these three become more 'popular' their playlists are seen as the only tracks worth buying, so directing the market to their tastes alone. its sad to see so many new producers making tracks specifically 'that armin would play' :( |

well if your into trance, asot doesnt miss many tracks at all - if its good enough it has about a 90% chance of making it on asot |

true, but they usually have them before most, and a greater % of their tracks are new than comparted to a dj who has one or two promos
all im trying to say is you will have a better chance of hearing new tunes from avb, tiesto, or pvd then you will from your local fav dj who has one or two promos and some older tracks

i also agree
nothing you can realy do about this though
we just all need to be aware of this POP fact and open our minds to more music:
Progressive
Psytrance
Ambient (not only blnak & jones :) )
Underground Rap
Drub & Bass
Techno (also i realy still cant connect truly to this)
So much ing more
there is sooo mcuh good music in the world except Armin
there is a very nice saying in hebrew, dont know how to translate it well:
The more You learn & search - The more you discover you actually know nothing
:wtf:
Open Your minds  |

| Ok it could be very rare but if good real trance go to mainstream like corderoy, rapid eye,G&D(ok not trance),Nu-NRG,flutlicht and many more producer to be discovered and this producers still produce tunes with the same philosophy(without ultra cheesy melodys and vocals) ,i am going to hate it only because the masses like!I think too many people "like" prog or techno only because of the hype "See me here!!!I´m different,i´m underground..".Well there are people who really like techno, prog and others... |

most of you havnt noticed but a pop type culture is developing within trance music. lots of peopel have favourite dj's granted, but a lot of people are drawn towards other dj's because of their celebrity status rather than the main thing their music. i mean there music might be good yeah, say for example, armin, plays nice trance. but his productions of late havnt been outstanding, yet everyone who logs into #armind and id-t radio 5 hours before ASOT will deny any form of critique towards them. another example is tiesto, i like the tunes tiesto plays, but when his productions skills were lacking, every tiesto was willing to jump and defend him? his lack of beatmatching ability to this day is still scribbled out for his #1 status.
tiesto is kinda different tho, in holland i think he is as big as a real pop star? im not sure, it seems so that way! pvd is another, great mixing and track selection, his productions arnt anything spedcial, yet they are raved about time and time again. but he has been the main trance "pop star" along with back then oakenfold. you look at mikes productions and matt hardwicks djing, way on par or even above some of the mentioned above, but these are not pop stars so nobody gives a about then right?
the problem i see with this, peopel arnt willing to diversify tastes. and it damages the clubbing cluture a bit coz clubs, a great example wud be crasher, will jsut book these djs time and time again coz all their "followers" will fill the club, leaving other djs out of the loop and making the trance sound more stale and repetitive. also people who see a record or hear a tune thats not by there fave dj or played by them they say its toally crap or whatever, not "its ok" or "its nice but not my style". it doesnt help that most peopel abroad are only ever exposed to big name dj's on tour too.
so there ya go, ill probably get flamed by a bunch of internet clubbers now. gutted. not. just raising awareness of this pop clulture which is growing within the trance scene and wondering what you people think of it.... |
There's no doubt that DJs are becoming the superstars of the new century. Oakenfold, Tiesto, Sasha & Digweed are widely renowned DJs. Where ever they are playing, people will want to see them, some are followers, some are just the regular clubbers, and there will be some who will be there just for the hype.
These DJs are becoming if not have already became icons for many of us. And it's human nature to become defensive to their icons. I think a lot of the criticism made on DJs are like, "He sucks. He can't beat match. He's cheesy." I mean, come on people, if you are like the educated trance addicts you claim, be a little more specific on why you don't like a certain track or a part of the mixing.
Although I am not very familiar with the club scene in the UK, in regards to your comment about clubs only booking the "big" DJs, I think there are clubs there that play different kinds of music. There are house clubs, Prog clubs, trance clubs. So don't just limit yourself to that one club or few clubs.
Also, it is human nature to follow what's popular. If trance is becoming mainstream, there's nothing we can do to stop it. However, there will always be passionate people who are truely into the music. |
