Sometimes, a bit of cheese is fun, but not every tune. Armin does have some good productions (I really like sunburn)
But, I listed a few arguments as to why I don't like his style. Can anyone honestly say Armin is not Cheesy??????
No, you can't. He seems to be like a great guy, very ambitious, loves what he does, and yes he does have a lot of talent.
But, he's too cheesy for my tastes, cheese goes bad after awhile....

ok...

So I guess my best suggestion would be: don't go to see Armin anymore. If you don't like his style, then don't listen to him!

I can tolerate people who don't like my style or my favorite artists, but one thing that drives me insane are the people who go to see someone, complain, and then see them again, and complain.

I saw FreakyFlow (drum n bass) at Boo6. I'm not a big fan of the genre, but there are a few artists I like, and I am always open to trying others. Needless to say, I was not very impressed. So, I don't buy his records, I don't download his singles and livesets, and I don't go to see him again. Plain and simple. No more complaining!

And to accept your challenge, yes; Armin is, for the mostpart, not cheesy. I love George Acosta...seen him once, have all his cd's...but he definitely falls more on the "cheesy" side than Armin, based on track selections in livesets. In my opinion.

I say "for the most part", because there is not one single artist out there that doesn't have a track or 2 that most deem cheesy.

And therein lies a dilemna; who defines what "cheesy" is, and would your definition match someone else's?

Probably not.

So, to wrap this up and hopefully move on:

You don't like Armin, fine.
You don't have to.
Just find someone else to listen to, and stop complaining,

But most of us do like Armin.
And you just have to learn to live with that, because we're not changing our minds. ^_^x

LMAO... i will no longer take my efforts & my time to see armin either.. he's another one of djs that fail to take you on a journey... and it doesnt necessarily mean u HAVE yo play NON CHEESEY tracks to take you on a journey, you can play cheese and take you on a journey as well, cuz to create your set to take ppl on a journey, it means #1 Flow/arrangement/programming whatever u wanna call it but thats what you gotta do AND know how to do it well IF you are a PROFESSIONAL dj... Track selections dont mean if they are in a ed up order and you can make a perfect track into if they are played at the wrong time.. its all about moods.. and a great dj reads that mood and brings out track that suffices and bring that mood up a notch, not down.. there were many moments when the crowd's moods came down and when that happens, the level of energy goes down as well.. to break it down, im all about flow, and armin's performance past december and this one didnt really have it.. One example, How the do u play Trancesetters - The Saga at 5:30am when the previous tracks before that were high flying trance tunes.. i really dont understand that one.. he pulled the same that tiesto pulled last Oct. when he mixed in 'Neverending Melody' into 'Flight 643'[original] and ed up the continuity of flow miserably.. im not bashing Armin, i just dont think that a professional dj's level of performance should be at that level, it should be higher.. i originally didnt wanna get into why i didnt like it much, but Wheel of Steel's post made me bring out certain points why i disagreed with many of you here.. REMEMBER ppl, not all "top 10 djs" are praised and get world wide fame because they know how to truley represent the art of djing, many of them are popular and got popular because of their PRODUCITON not djing skills... this point is overlooked my so many ppl, but try to remember, producing and djing is 2 differnt form of art.:D
Enervate
woww.. first of all i thought it was ing awesome when he threw saga in there.. he didnt do it for too long, and personally i thought it was great. armin did a great job at roxy, i usually hate roxy, but i think he did a great job there. as for his track selection, the only problem i had was him playing 'as the rush comes on' right after the amp went out. but i understood why he had to, he had to change the mood fast. save that, i thought he did an excellent job mixing and interacting with the crowd. taking 'perception' from the crowd and playing it- who else would do that??

My first post on TA. Armin, do you have bread to go with that? Total cheese, no direction, no flow, the guy is so overated.
I don't know what is the appeal, mixing aint all that great, and he plays total cheese, no real driving rthyms to keep me going. I'm waiting for some proper trance to come to nyc....

If you talk , why wont you show us what you got?

Wow buddy, way to lose your cool. I'm not talking "" I am pointing out to what i consider obvious....why other people can't see that.....dj tek can. In response to why I continue to see armin, why I complain....
I have seen Armin twice. 2 times out of a few years, sometimes people have a bad night, so I gave him another chance, and he failed so I will never see him again. Tek put it well when he said some people are producers...not djs. Armin falls into that category for sure. I have only bought one production by him, have never bought an album and I never will. I'm not complaining by any means, i'm pointing things out to people on this board so that they will broaden there horizens a little bit, there are loads of awesome trance dj's out there...just because someone isn't in the top 10 does not mean they are not awesome!! In fact most of my favorite djs are not in the top 10...why? Because they rely on their skills not their name. Please read my review thread to see what i'm talking about....oh and I got plenty buddy.

I can see your reasoning for seeing him again...some dj's do have a bad night, so I'll give that one to you.

I, for one, have never followed Armin simply because of his productions, and I don't think Armin is the only DJ that most who like him follow. And that leads me to the one problem I have with everything you have described:

Tracklisting may not be everything, but neither are skills.
Performance is key.

For example, I was really looking forward to seeing Sandra Collins spin. I liked her style, and her mixing was technically superior to others when I did see her. But I was not happy with her PERFORMANCE, and therefore left her set with a sense of loss.

What good is being the most skilled dj if you have the personality of a fig? What if your mixing is flawless, but your interaction with the crowd is next to nill? In my book, that is not a good dj.

Armin is not the most SKILLED DJ...I have seen some do it better. But I have never seen anyone as enthusiastic and as pleased as him. Armin is a PERFORMER. And when I see his enthusiasm, it makes me even more excited, and gets me dancing ever harder. In my book, that is a good dj.

I can understand trying to open up people to other trance dj's, or dj's of other genre's. But stripping their favorite, or one of their favorite, dj's isn't the way to go about it.

I think it's great that Armin is in the top 10, but I don't like him simply because of that. Oakenfold is in the top 10 as well...and I'm not a fan of his.

Hell, after Armin, my #2 dj isn't even trance - Misstress Barbara. She's not in the top 10 or even 25. But she's near the top of my list for the same reason's Armin is; she is an awesome dj. Not just because of her style, and not just because of her skills, but because she is an awesome performer, and all 4 times I have seen her, she has shown her enthusiasm, even in no-so-hot circumstances.

You want to add some names for people to check out?
Make a new thread, and throw down your suggestions.

Bottom line: DJ'ing is not just about playing awesome tracks or perfectly mixing one record into the next. It's also about performing...showing you love what you are doing. And Armin does that in spades.

alot of bickering from everyone...but the truth is that the crowd is always mixed. we see clubbers, enthusiasts, djs, producers, and regular people attend these parties. some who are not educated others who are out "to be out" i just think that you people need to all look at it from the basic point of view. we are all out to hear the music we all love, any extras comments are just opinions which everyone is entitled to. so try and not take offense to peoples opinions since they do have their right to express them. this is a public board so lets not argue on who is what or what is who.

imho-armin as a DJ didnt impress me. as a clubber it was nice to hear good music. im happy just to be out sharing it with u guys. and yes producers who aspire to djs are worthless, djs who aspire to produce are priceless.
