ok...

so I'm psyched to get my brand new 2.8 ghz 120 gig Dell today right???

but noooooo DELL has to suck ass as usual...

as soon as I turn it on (after 2 screens, one being "read your damn agreement" and the other confirming my service tag and all that) the ing thing goes into hibernation. or at least I and the technicians believe its hibernation. basically the monitor light goes to orange and the comp itself stays on. so tech support had me reinstall the PREINSTALLED xp and nothing. so the idiots are sending me a new one. but i was soooo psyched to get this and now I have to wait 2 weeks for another one to come. if someone can help mee please do so. i have a perfectly good new flatscreen going to waste :(

Ps please dont move this thread to anonther room.i need help tonight and nobody goes to the help rooom.if u do move it, please move it tomorrow, pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease

its sooo frustrating its like having a new car and no fuel :(:(

im just a poor damsel in distresssss

have you tried booting into safe mode?

please be a little bit more descriptive with whats wrong.

when exactly does the monitor turn off?
is it when windows loads?
do you see the boot up screen with the BIOS and Dell Logo and such?

if you do, for some reason windows is not communicating with your video card. maybe the settings that windows has set, your video card can't handle. you can prolly fix this by being able to boot into safe mode and changing the vid card settings there.

need more info tho :)

It's all well and good to say its best to build your own system, but everyone who I know who has done this has ended up with a ed up system they keep having to fix.

My mums had a dell since 1992 which she still used until like a year ago, and there was never any problem at all.

My dell now ive had for 4 years, and its never had any problem either. It ran Windows 98 for more than 2 1/2 years with no problems before I had to format it.

Out of all the computer companies i've seen, Dell have easily been the most reliable.

ive had 4 custom built computers, all had/have no problems. Performance and problems depends on what parts you have. Some mobos dont go well with some video cards and cpus. If you have an idea of what you are putting in, you will get good results. Same idea with cars too. its all about compatability.

i've found dells to be quite reliable. my dad has a bunch in his office and they have all served him well. he's had a server which he just replaced last year, which was running strong for almost 7 years which was a dell. now its my mom's computer and it still runs just fine.
dell has really exploded lately, and normally when companies get bigger they get tier. but i dunno, i've built my past two computers :)

it sounds like your windows xp video config is messed up.
boot into safe mode. just keep hitting f8 after you turn your computer on and wait for the screen which asks you where you want to boot into comes up. then choose safe mode. hopefully windows should load and your monitor should not turn off. if it does, then we got a big problem here :). once it boots up into right click on your desktop and click properties. select the settings tab. tell me what it is set to and we can figure something else which may work.
to be safe you can set it to 256 color with 800 by 600 res. and then boot into normal windows and fix it to something you like.
