jayme, heh, i couldn't have been consistenly wrong since the playoffs started because i not once made a prediction. i said what i *would like* to have seen happen, but i never said 'the *blah blahs* will beat the *blah blahs* in 6 games like everyone else did. :toothless
and as for vlad, baltimore is a STRONG possibility. but as for the expos, they can afford him because 99% of the team is owned by MLB. its just that next year they wont be able to afford anyone. and no one even knows what vlad is asking for. he was making 11 mill this year, and i DOUBT he would go over 14 or 15... like ive been saying though, we will have to wait and see. |

i have to ask you, where the hell do you keep coming up with Bernie Williams at second base? has he played second before and i am not aware of it? it is one thing to move an infielder to outfield, but outfielder to infield is completely different. if bernie can't play outfield, he certainly can't play infield. infiled requires even quicker movements. plus, with a lineup like that, a team is *DESTINED* for failure. |

Ive been saying Bernie at 2nd because thats what the Yankees have been talking about doing. Bernie is quick, he just doesnt have the arm to play outfield. It wouldnt hurt to try would it?
How is the team destined for failure, adding Sheffield and Guererro would had 2 great fielders, along with their great bats, both are good contact hitters - they are as big a HR threat as they are putting the balls in the gaps. And if not both of those guys together, I would go with Shannon Stewart - hes a good hitter and great fielder.
The only reason why I would do that lineup is because those are the only good free agents that I know about. |

i only meant it was destined for failure because every team that has ever been that good on paper failed. look at the mets this year. if you just saw:
C- Mike Piazza
1b- Mo Vaughn
2b- Roberto Alomar
SS- Jose Reyes
3b- Ty Wigginton (SS and 3b would be the only 2 question marks)
RF- Jeromy Burnitz
CF- Roger CedenO
LF- Cliff Floyd
that is an awesome team on paper. however, we SUCKED. plus, there are lots of free agents this year. Pudge, Bartolo Colon, Tejada, little Matsui, Suppan, Eddie Guardado, Keith Foulke, Mike Cameron, Javy Lopez, Wil Cordero, Kenny Lofton... tons more. heh. |

i dont think they will get all 3 signed but def pettitte tho i dont know about maddux and millwood cause the mets are pursuing him also in the offseason so we will see. hopefulkly the mets can sign luis castillo and millwood but then there would be three speed guys at the top of the lineup and that is a problem and also the mets are pursuing an outfielder they dont have a chance in hell to get guerrero i know that cause everyone wants him maybe a more than avg outfielder not sure of all the free agent outfielders right now but hopefully they can pick a good one up . next year looks like alot of a better season for the mets but i say that every year but i think it will be different with jose reyes at the top he will be something special in a couple of years. |

If Steinbrenner wants Maddux and Millwood, Im sure he wont mind opening up his check book - We all know Steinbrenner has the biggest check book in baseball.
If you have an issue with Williams at 2nd than we can do this lineup:
CF - Soriano

RF - Guererro/Sheffield
DH - Williams
1B - Giambi
LF - Sheffield/Matsui

you know whats the most interesting thing about owners? there are a lot who have LOADS more money than George. the owner of the Tigers, for example. he could easily afford ANY player out there. for some reason he just chooses not to.
and Vlad, you have to picture that mets team 2 years ago. when all of those players were *good.* Alomar was, at the time, the best 2nd baseman in the league. we had rey ordonez (who i consider to be one of the best defensive shortstops in all of baseball). all the outfielders had incredible years the year before they came to the Mets, as did Mo Vaughn. just because a player's last name isn't Bonds, Sosa, Ramirez, Guerrero... doesn't mean they aren't good players.
anf another critique with your line up(sorry, hehe :toothless). Giambi BLOWS at first base, especially compared to Nick Johnson. which is why Giambi has been DH and Johnson has been starting 1st base. these are all reasons why i think the yankees are going to do something with Bernie.
mets4012, i'd rather the mets sign Tejada or Mike Cameron than Luis Castillo. if we got Tejada, we could move him to 3rd base and put Wiggi back at 2nd, where he belongs (despite that Matt Galante made him an EXCELLENT defensive 3rd baseman). it's Matt Galante that makes me really want Tejada, because he can make anyone an infielder. Awesome, awesome infield coach. look at what he did with Wiggi and with Jason Phillips. Phillips is a catcher... but did you see some of the plays he made at 1st base? incredible. same thing with Wiggi. Galante could probably make Babe Ruth a great defensive infielder. |

Giambi wasnt just hitting DH because he isnt a good 1st baseman, he was playing DH because management asked himt to do something and he didnt listen and this was his punishment - I heard this from a bunch of people when I was watching the game at a bar. And although Nick is a better fielder, he definitley doesnt have the bat Giambi has.
If I had a choice of 1st baseman to have I would take Todd Helton over anyone. :D |
