NY better not go for Manny, it will be the Bobby Bonilla story part 2.. although Bonilla isnt the athelete that Manny is, they dont need him.
I was watching PTI on ESPN and this is what they said - If the Yankees were to take over Manny's 5 year, 104 million dollar contract this would give the Red Sox room to get 2-3 big players like Billy Wagner off of Houston, Wagner off Houston would give them room to extend a large contract to Petitte who they really want.
If the Yankees dont resign Petitte I will flip. |

| well, first off, david wells filed for free agency. so he is probably gone. and vlad, get your facts straight, Petitte wants to go to texas just as much as they want him. |

You said get your facts straight... what about what I said is wrong?
If Petitte goes to Houston I will die... If Petitte really wants to go there that bad, the Yankees should resign him and trade him for a (few) Houston pitcher(s).
Pitchers for the Yankees to look at:
Greg Maddux
Kevin Millwood
Bartolo Colon
Jeff Suppan
Sidney Ponson
John Burkett
John Thompson |

well, i shouldnt have said it that way. what i meant was that pettite wants to go to houston or texas just as much as they want him.
and as for those pitchers, the only one i can see on the yankees is bartolo colon. hes the only one that can be seen as a power pitcher. the pitching free agency this year BLOWS.
and in case you didnt know, next years free agents are incredible. this is just from the Mon Expos: Orlando Cabrera, Jose Vidro, Livan Hernandez, and (my fav of the bunch) Javier Vasquez. plus, one of the big three from the A's... loads and loads of free agents. gonna be a fun 2005. |

2005 should be fun... This years free agency does blow...
I can easily see Maddux going to the Yankees - Cashman has a thing for older pitchers... But they are gonna need to get pitchers to replace Wells, Clemens, maybe Petitte, and to fill a 5th spot. |

well, it's not really Cashman. heh... Cashman has basically nothing to do with any moves that are made by the Yankees. we all know who really makes the moves. |

Well Cashman has everything to do with the players they get, he just doesnt have the authority to make it happen. ;) Cashman can want whoever he wants, but if he doesnt get approval from the boss it isnt happening. Steinbrenner kinda reminds me of Jerry Jones - because Jerry Jones handles EVERYTHING that goes on with the Cowboys, and doesnt hire a GM or anything of the sort. |

| Hes a closer though, we still have Mo... and actually I dont mind him going to the Phillies because the Red Sox wanted him, and Im happy that he didnt go there. |

well, what i meant was:
when the red sox put manny out on waivers, the *main* reason the yanks didnt snatch him up was because of the whole andy petite situation. if the got manny, the sox would've been able to get wagner, and then houston would have the extra cash to get petitte. now, the astros got rid of wagner anyway and have the money to get petitte. so if the astros get petitte, the yanks lose out BIG TIME. they lost what many (including me) would consider their ace, since clemens is gone *AND* they lost an opportunity to get a hitter thats better than anyone else in their lineup in Ramirez. that 15-day grace period is almost up, so the yanks better start offering petitte a bagillion dollars. :toothless |
