Gorilla all the way. Nearly as smart as us, really territorial and aggressive when fighting. I've see videos of both animals fighting and the gorilla would win this by a long shot. The height of the animal doesn't mean anything IMO. The taller, the tier your center of gravity the less balance you have, the easier to get thrown down by a charging gorilla with a low center of gravity.

its no contest..a large grizzly bear would beat and maul the out of that ape. you gotta remember the 2-4 inch claws too!
here is some interesting info about grizzlies..
Average weight is 500 pounds for males and 375 for females. Males may weigh up to 900 pounds.
Height is 3.5 – 4 feet at shoulder when on all fours, and 6 –7 feet when standing upright.
Front claws are 2-4 inches long, slightly curved, and good for digging. Claw marks are usually visible in tracks.

i think the record for a standing bear (it was either a kodiak or a polar, I think kodiak though) was 15 feet. a 15 foot tall bear would pwn a gorilla.

Sure the bears got big claws and teeth, but they'll never touch the gorilla. The bear has a limited number of attack moves:
* It can bite the gorilla.. but it has to be reallly close.. or holding the gorilla, which won't happen cos the gorillas too agile.
* It can swipe with one claw while standing on all fours... in which case it has a limited range and low maneauverability as its standing on three legs while its swiping. The gorilla, with its superior agility would easily keep away from the claw and run circles around the bear.
* It can briefly push its body up and try to swipe with both claws... again limited range and low maneauverability.
* When it gets really pissed off it can get up on its hind legs and try to "fall on its victim" with the intention of clawing/mauling it. Again the gorilla is too agile to fall for this... even experienced humans won't fall for it.
While a bear has good running speed, and is bloody massive, it is its very size makes it clumsy and limits its agility. The gorilla is extremely aggressive, fast, agile and intelligent.. it will be able to run circles around the bear climbing/jumping on it and attacking its weaknesses unpredictably then quickly jumping off. |

i am going with the silverback, all the way. this fight has been stuck in my mind for the past two days, and i am confident that the gorilla would win. i took a survey of people that i work with and the vote came out 25 for the gorilla and 35 for the bear. but i still am sticking with the gorilla

Gorillas dont punch, the pummel and a bears skull is about 3 inches thick. Any time it does any of its stupid ass moves, it gets clawed.
