While I was at uni I managed to train myself to switch sleeping patterns quite easily. I had the "bed at 4am, wake up at midday" pattern 3 days a week while I was at uni, the other 2 days when I was working I could comfortably sleep at midnight and wake up by 7 for work.

The trick is to short-sleep yourself the night before you have to get up. Go to bed at 3am, but then force yourself up at 8-9am. So then later than night, when you'd normally be struggling to sleep, it's hell difficult to stay awake :D

Hey guys.
Plenty of exercise is the solution for me.
I work 12 hour shifts watching a computer network. 7:30 to 7:30 for 2 days and 2 nights followed by a 4 day weekend. Hardest parts are the early mornings and forcing myself to wake up after only 4 hours sleep on my first day off. I do that to make sure I get "normal" sleep pattern on the other 3 days of the weekend. But as long as I keep the exercise regular I can sleep whenever I need to.
The spanner in the works is the big nights out. This weekend for example, Saturday night will start at about 11pm at a bar with clubbing after and probably finish with recovery at someones house late Sunday afternoon. That will leave me wrecked for a couple of days, but of course, other factors are involved.
And for those who are wondering, a 4 day weekend is still not long enough.

Damn fixing the sleeping habit for many seems pretty easy :o

well last night the sleeping tablet knocked me out at around 10:30pm and i bloody woke up fresh only 4 hours later WTF!!..

haha i get up from bed confused, thinking its morning but very dark, look at the time and it's only 2:30... so much for the bloody tablet :whip:

so i dunno what to do, jump on the internet and notice there is hardly anyone on the forums... the boredom puts me to sleep, wake up at midday.

so much for that :o

Hate to say I told you so ;( (was hoping u'd tell me so!).

Tonight try it our way....stay up late, and then go t bed early.

Exercise, is another way of making you sleepy early.

Don't you mean stay up late and then get up early? :p
gumble
ye, my sleeping patterns are screwed as well

lol, getting up for a "11 am lecture" today was extremely difficult.

my nights = go online, talk in irc, get some new tracks, watch some family guy, play some wolf ET and its then 4am.

getting up at around 1:00 pm. lol

p.s. anyone know some good online "free" games (like wolf ET, or servers for other games that dont require serials?) that will run on my comp? (cel 1.1, gfmx440)

(errr, might have to PM me actaully if we are talking not-as-free-as-others, muchly apreciated)

Well guys i suffered from insomnia for a fair while (throughout high school and first year of uni), and pretty much ive discovered that so long as your laying in bed just day dreaming you still get just as much rest as if you slept (sure you still want sleep but thats more psychological then physical....)

So psygnosis if you find you really cant sleep, my suggestion - just lay there, close your eyes and let your mind wander... who knows you might just fall asleep but at least you'll get enough rest either way! :)

Is that true?? i mean laying there closing your eyes, does your body still react to as though your sleeping???

^^ i'll try that tonight and see if it does make you wake up better...
