this thread breaks my heart.all you once so-called 'fans' of tiesto are now bashing him,and for what? because he is more famous now with SOOO much more exposure? what has he done to deserve your nasty comments? he is a great dj,a great producer, and a great guy.what more do u want? can a dj nowadays not be a big as he can be without all you people calling him a sell out? he has done more for trance than you could ever imagine.
fact of the matter is,if u had the chance to see him live or meet him,u would jump at the chance.period.
ill always be a fan of tijs no matter wot.
(ps:and i hope armin doesnt get the worlds #1 dj if this is whats happening to tiesto) |

Ever see Ishkur's Guide to Electronic Music? He reconizes hip-hop/rap as a form of EDM. I'm not saying that thing is 100% accurate, but that part of it makes sense. See, there are those on here that are too ignorant to realize that it is indeed a form of EDM, just because they don't like it or want to associate it with the type of music that they enjoy. It all makes sense if you think about it for more than 2 seconds. |
so you're assuming i dont like hip hop? i know lots and lots about hip hop. my stance on the matter is, maybe if you get technical it is a form of edm. but when you ask 99.9% of people, hip hop is hip hop. you won't see jay-z and nas on the same bill as dj tiesto and pvd. jay-z and nas won't be as Ultra just as tiesto and pvd won't be at summer jam.
also, because dancehall reggae is made using synthesizers and people dance to it, it is considered a form of edm? and not a form of reggae? see, there are those on here that are to '1337' and knowledgeable about music to let any others pursuade them. at least i am agreeing with you in some aspects, when you make a valid point. but i have made PLENTY of valid points, but because you dont agree, i am automaticallu ignorant and wrong. grow up dude. i'm not tying to run for president with this 'debate' so just relax and try not to take things so seriously. (note: that was a sarcastic rolleyes) |

i agree, but i think tiesto is kind of being a 'tool' by doing these concerts. this is the third year in a row that he has done a mega event. the first being his solo tour (not as big as the concert, but still big). being the #1 DJ in the world, he should try and innovate himself and the genre of music he is involved in. and i def agree with the armin statement. i dont see him as innovative at all. cookie cutter trance productions and dj. i dont even understand how he made it so high in the rankings. what has he done to make him so popular? |

Yeah but there's a strong chance you'll find P. Diddy on there. :p |

shamez ur retarded im sure you would go insane if you could see sasha in an event like tic. If you wouldn't then im guessing you are an "armchair" ta.
And Hip hop/rap aka 50 cent is not edm. Even though it is electronic sounds it still is not music .
And someone please tell me what tiesto tracks are "cookie cutter" type trance? Name some tracks... |

what the hell are you talking about?
i *never* once said i wouldnt go to a tiesto concert if it were in NYC. of course i would go. i love tiesto. but the main points of my tiesto comments were that he's dont a big event for the past 3 years. seems like he's running out of ideas. and as the #1 dj in the world, he shouldnt be running out of ideas. he should be willing and able to innovate each and everytime he spins. and you seem to be EXTREMELY close minded to say that hip hop is not music. matter of fact, you're an idiot. normally i don't resort to name calling, but you are, in fact, a moron with that statement. im not even going to begin arguing with you over it. |

dancehall reggae IS edm! dancehall reggae + hardcore was the hybrid combination that led to the ragga jungle of the early nineties, which then lay root to dnb/jungle culture. just because it is more organic, rustic and non-Western in the strict sense doesn't mean that it doesn't deserve the edm label. the fact is that hip hop and dancehall and miami bass and ghetto funk and all those genres are evolutions of electro funk among other things, which was a different path taken by those pioneers that were influenced by the synthpop of the seventies. electrofunk was the third route after Detroit techno and Chicago/NY house.
this is a bit oversimplification of what can only be explained by reading lots of music history, but the main point is that if it's electronic, if it's danceable and if it's a product of the electronic canon of the past it deserves the edm label.
This book is a pretty authoritative background on what i mean:
Modulations: A History of Electronic Music: Throbbing Words on Sound
| quote: | Book Description
Other books have been written on electronic music, but none with the breadth and accessibility offered by Modulations, the tie-in volume to the critically acclaimed film directed by Iara Lee, released in 1998. Going beyond the limits of an encyclopedia or a record guide, essays by musicians and music journalists illuminate such genres as techno, house, krautrock, disco, hip-hop, drum'n'bass, ambient, and downtempo in more expansive detail than was possible in the film. From the "art of noise" proposed by then Italian Futurists to the musique concrete experiments of Pierre Schaeffer and Pierre Henry, Modulations probes the conceptual origins of synthesized sound. Present day geographic trends and cross-fertilized styles are traced back to the experimental and groundbreaking work of diverse pioneers such as Iannis Xenakis, Kraftwerk, Giorgo Moroder, Robert Moog, and John Cage. The African-American roots of electronic music are also documented, from free-jazz fellow traveler Sun Ra to funk innovators Parliament/Funkadelic. Sections on fusion, dub, post-punk, breakbeats, latin freestyle, and Miami bass make this book an all-encompassing reference tool for devoted followers as well as an excellent introduction for curious newcomers. |

OMG 2nd concert, gives me a chance to see what i missed last time.
*small generalisation, but not aimed at anyone in this thread
a lot of TA's are armchair TA's, who listen to live sets and criticise stuff, like tune selection and stuff. Its always different whe you're present at such an event. People were bashing Ferry for using that rock band to play his tunes. Now come on!! that is a fantastic idea to use, its original, its different and it would be fun as to watch some rockers play some sweet riffs!
and yes, Hip-Hop and stuff is a form of EDM. Listen to Sean Paul's - Like Glue (yes, i know it will be difficult :p) but there is a very nice synth in there that could be used to great effect in a trance tune :) |

yeah but youre not going to see Andy C or DJ Hype on the same bill as Tiesto or PVD, theyre different genres with different appeals, obviously theyre not going to be placed side-by-side all the time especially at major events; you can find techno sets side by side with trance or house sets because alot of the time locally there is only enough appeal to lump them all together as one. hip-hop is so mainstream that it doesnt need to associate itself too much with the other EDM genres, but i dont think that means its any less of a legit EDM genre
edit/add on - i wish i lived in the netherlands :( want to go TiC2 |

| to say tiesto is running out of ideas is stupid. he's almost constantly producing new tracks and he tours the globe more than any other dj....tic was such a success, why wouldn't he want to do it again? what's wrong with that? he said it was the best gig of his life...so why not do it twice? |
