The Sorry State of Trance in Our Beloved NYC (pg. 2)

| i'm totally misunderstanding or missing the point of this thread. granted that dancing with females is a fine thought. i think u're generalizing it based on the roxy and even then the crowd was not a sausage fest. ferry the following night seemed to have a great many females present (induced by avalon's bouncers no doubt). regardless of whether or not females are present, (imo anyway) a club does not deem a night a success if they can bring in females. how can u be sure that girls would be spending more money anyway? they might bring in more money because guys would be looking to pick up these chicks. anyway i think i'm rambling because i don't see the central focus of your argument. i think your lament is that there're no chicks at these places, thus it is your definition of the sorry state of trance in NYC, yet u're still having a great time on club nights. so do u really need more females present? :p |

-Clubs deem a night a success based on one thing: money
-Girls increase spending because guys always spend money on girls ("Hey can I buy you a drink?" "Dammit my girl needs another water!" etc.)
-Yes, you are rambling a little, but that's cool, I do it all the time (which I why I revert to bullet points here) ;)
-I have a GREAT time at these events because I am a TRANCE fan; but I know based on past experiences that I could be having a LOT BETTER of a time.
-Why? Because trance rocks that hard, and it deserves an environment in which to show that. . .properly. And the proper club experience consists of way more than what we saw at PVD.
Females are only part of it, although I see them as a very big part. My overall point here is:
The NYC scene is weak. Despite a strong following and great DJs, many of its events lack the fun I have grown accustomed to. Why is this? What can we do to improve it?
And lastly, yes, I need more females. Whether you think NYC trance is a sausage-fest or not, I don't see many siutations where that is a BAD thing :D

i have to agree with mr sleek here. the girl to guy ratio at trance related or even edm related events is just terrible. What i think the problem is, i ask alot of girls i know this question and get the same answer everytime.
me: "why dont you girls goto clubs"
girls i know: "because everytime we go, we feel like were getting violated by all the guys touching my ass or making me dance witht hem and we dont like that"
basically, they stereo type all clubs into being like that which is why you more often or not see more guys then girls at these events. sure they're exceptions to this, but this is definitely one reason why we see more guys then girls at these events. |

If PVD was booked at a gay club would you go?
I don't know about you, but I go to clubs to get my bone-on.

Do you know why these days PVD, Sasha don't play good gigs? Do you know why no clubs these days can't compare with TWILO?
I think u know the answer to these. We trance lovers go to their gigs because we admire them, we love their muzik, and we share the same interest. But now days, most clubs except (ARC), brings the crowds that just there to party, for the scenary, and get hook up with gals. That's y EXIT was whack, Avalon sucks even though they many good line ups, and many other clubs.
If been to TWILO before, there weren't many gals, but the club itself attracts people, i used to live there every weekend and I am sure many others did too.
All I am trying to say, girls are not the factor brings down trance, it is the crowds... |

At last! A few individuals who agree with me!
Unlike other people who would be dismissive of this thread, lets push it forward. . .
If we can agree the "social" aspects of trance events are the pits, or at least stand to be greatly improved, why do you think it is that way?
Most importantly, what can we do to improve it?
To recap for those who may just be joining: We are talking about the state of trance in NYC and its comparison to the ideal club experience (concentrating on the much needed involvement of women). In my eyes, NYC trance events have a long way to go - after all, isn't the whole conecpt of dance (not counting the gay audience) and dance music virtually rooted in guy/girl interaction? I don't think I am out of line saying that a few more female fans would go a long way in helping out the vibe of the current crowd, unless you see being in the same club as women to be an undesirable thing. I'm not dissing the music - the music is A1 - but the whole experience could be a lot more fun overall.
Where did dance music come from:
Dance clubs
Where did dance clubs come from:
People who want to profit from the inevitable need for men and women to socialize; people who know what a genuine good time consists of, and who wish to profit by providing it to others.
Hope this serves to clarify some of the reasoning behind this thread. It all ties together, my fellow tranceheads.
Peace,
Slick |

That's true in EXIT, ROXY, AVALON, not ARC...
Like I said there are people go to club for good muzik, and there are people go to club for gals... |

. . and there are people who go for both.
I go for the whole clubbing experience, and it has, and always will boil down to three things:
1) Bangin DJ / music / sound
2) Good club / venue
3) Attractive looking members of the opposite sex
Again, music is #1 because this is trance, and trance is all about emotion, the experience, the togetherness, etc. etc. etc. . . .
My point is that while some may go "only for the music", I am someone who goes for all of it. That doesn't make me any less of a fan.
Trance in NYC is very far away from meeting those three requirements. You can argue that one or maybe two are in there, but as far as all three of those elements being housed under the same roof, at a dedicated trance event, well, I haven't seen that since, oh...1999.

Well, I don't know about you, but I waste too much time dealing with girls everyday. When I go to club, I just wanna enjoy my muzik and dance to the muzik...
1 & 2 are good enough for me.... |

| man, i was getting it on with some hott chick at the roxy but i do agree, before me their were 3 guys getting it on with her. What i hate the most is guys in their with no shirts... don't see a point in that unless they get so hott that they die. Not much we can do about it overall though, chicks don't last as long as guys in the clubs so... i guess we need a new breed of chicks |
