That is what this whole thread was about, although people seem to have wandered off the topic a bit. The issue goes beyond girls, it's more about the overall quality of the event, the "experience" of an event.
Plus, while Fla and the Miami area may have a good scene, lots of New Yorkers (like me) are very loyal to their hometown; its my view that since NYC rocks so much (which it does, providing they don't kill the remnants of its nightlife industry), that it deserves to have trance properly represented in its clubs. New Yorkers have been dreaming of a true trance scene for years. Whether that's going to happen or not is really up in the air, in my humble opinion.
Plain facts dictate that NYC does in deed suck for trance in terms of events. They simply don't compare to trance events held elsewhere; not saying you can't have a good time at them (I ususally do), but it sorta sucks after a while, walking away from event after event thinking "Sure, the music was kickin', but the whole thing could have been better." I was hoping this thread could offer some suggestions on how to change all that, this being a discussion board.
I'm not sure trance will ever find a true home in NYC either. One thing is for sure - if it keeps staying as "underground" as it is now, it will never rise above its current sausage-fest stigma.

No prob. I was wanting to hear from others first, but since we are on page three already, here's another .02:
I believe the easiest way to discuss this would be from a weekly point of view; this thread has focused on the overall quality of the trance event, so. . .
If God Himself descended from the Heavens and said: "I giveth thee a NYC weekly trance party in a decent Manhattan club", I would immediately institute the following guidelines:
1) Ladies free: Very important. A good point that people here have brought up is that guys are more into music than girls (true) and are often brought into music events by said guys. Fine. Now that you don't have to pay for them, all the mack daddies here who say "I go for the music and I am too busy with girls / I had a harem of them with me at PVD" have no excuse not to bring them with you. No need to get cheesey with the drink specials unless the door is really hurting.
2) Hire good local DJs: As openers if anything; can't rely solely on big-name talent as it is both expensive and rare here in NYC
3) Mix up the music: Before I get shot, I am not proposing a hip-hop/house DJ combo; I was thinking more along the lines of some progressive (of the non-druggy variety) and breaks, which tend to go nicely with trance. This will help to slowly indoctrinate the non-tranceheads who may attend, as they will stick around for the music they dig more, and be invariably exposed to trance as the night goes on
4) Don't go overboard with VIP: Anyone who has gotten VIP during an event can tell you its great, but too much of a good thing is a bad thing. Keep things level to ensure the crowd mixes at the bar.
5) Make sure I know some of the DJs on at least a professional level: Personally, I'd encourage them to actually mingle with the people they are playing for; it wouldn't kill them to say hello to a few peeps who dug their set on the way to the bar
6) Create a moderate door policy that is consistently enforced by reasonably courteous bouncers: Keep the bouncers/line strict enough to weed out amatuers, druggies, troublemakers, but approachable enough to encourage others to come back. If the party was going to be 21+, a dress code would be enforced; not suffocating enough to outlaw sneakers, but strict enough to keep big pants and day-glo outside.
7) Hear what the crowd wants: As a party-organizer, pay attention to which DJs are drawing the most props from the crowd; try to book them more often, and if they are getting similar props in the rest of the trance world, book them as often as you can. Try to snag up and comers at all costs. This measure would serve to build a devoted following for both the event and the club, which profits the club owner, who permits the party to continue.
If trance events had some of these conditions, maybe we would have more choices than a sold-to-capacity Roxy to go to. Again, this post is from a WEEKLY perspective, with the goal being the keep the party profitable so it can continue, therefore building the local scene.
Thoughts? How would you do it differently?

Date or no date, if I have to bring this person in my car then chances are I'm going to see problems a, b and c as listed above. If I knew a girl or group of girls that could get ready on time, come enjoy the music and stay as long as possible, believe me I'd be all for it (even if it was just a friendly acquaintance or two). |

Roxy isn't the only option...
It's very difficult to do a weekly trance event in NYC (maybe Avalon is the closest thing)because of all the options and competition. It gives more reason for ppl to wanna go to different places, and not the same place every week.
And in terms of pulling in ppl, it that seems that often a big house DJ will win out over a trance DJ that is just as good but just not as well known, even for many TA's (but I could be wrong)

Be glad for all the talent that comes into NYC
The clubs aren't perfect, but having them and the DJ's there at all is very good for a start.
Just come and enjoy the music. If you don't like the crowd, bring your own. Or just drink more or keep your eyes closed or something. :p
Support them so that they continue to come in and come back, and so that there's even a chance to improve on the issues you've mentioned.
Also support the smaller events (like TFST, Prognosis, Future Progression, to name a few), most of which are put on by TA's here. Then maybe they might have a chance to build up into something bigger.
Or do your own event, so that there can be something with everything you want. |

Well said - I'll have to check these events out.
If trance is to grow in NYC, then it would start at weeklies like this. I look forward to seeing what DJs they are bringing in.

Finally someone has seen the light! I don’t get why you guys (danax, etc) are flaming slick for wanting more girls at parties...stop being such sausages. It’s given we all love the music, so why not have more girls around at trance events? If all you're looking for is a "music event", stay home and listen to your mp3 collection. The music will always be there, so why not make the atmosphere better? Would you rather find yourself dancing amongst chicks or amongst a plethora of sweaty sausages? Slick: The points you outlined are pretty much dead on. It will take time, but it is in the works..trust me ;)

DanAX: If you read the thread up until this point, you can see its really about both; I mentioned the lack of girls to try to put the scene's nightlife problems into perspective (because in NYC, a club scene without a sufficient amount of girls is not a usually financial success. No financial success = no foundation to build a bigger scene upon).
Wallflower kindly mentioned the names of some weeklies, some of which are thrown by TAers, which I will have to check out. Anyone wanna plug those parties? Which one has the best music? Best promoters? Best crowd?

I just think don't like to put TRANCE and GIRLS together, simply because they don't go together. I mean really, there is really nothing much we can do about it.

They are usually monthly events. You'll see info on this board when there's something upcoming.
There's no point comparing them, as they don't compete with each other. They're all good. Just go check them out.
Search this forum, and you'll see many positive review about them.
btw, going back to your original post, u can't judge the whole scene based on one single night.

What happened to me at PVD @ Roxy:
