I was hanging out at the main amphitheater from 3pm to 1am. Sander rocked my world, as did pete tong ironically, as I've never listened to much of him. I didn't recognize much from Sander but Tong played this remix of the Beastie Boys Intergalactic that had my jumping like there's no tomorrow.
Junkie XL played all of his classics (most of which I never knew were his) such as the Red Pill. Not sure of the names of the others...
Tiesto was a bit disapointing. It was much more tame than I'd expected and not in a chilled out laid back way, just a pseudo boring way. Besides lethal industry of course and Traffic I didn't really recognize much---except for another beastie boys remix (I think tiesto played it anyway..may have been Junkie XL) of Fight for the Right (to Party).
Oakenfold was very, very disapointing. He was the first DJ I ever listened to (Ibiza '99 was my first set heard) and I will always have a soft spot for the guy, but his set was nothing. And wtf is up with his hair???
Chemical Brothers rocked the house, but it didn't come close to their counter-band from last year, Underworld. They didn't play any of their classics either.
Paul van Dyk blew my mind. He played all his classics, I believe he started with the club mix of Time of our Lives. One of the last songs was Crush, etc. More tracks for the list tomorrow.
I think Pete played the Nirvana Smells like Teen Spirit remix. May have been someone else.
Right when Pete started to play the sun went behind a Bank's building and it was no longer hotter than a blast furnace. I only had to make three water runs the whole night. They never took more than half an hour each, heh. They weren't exagerating when it said "50,000 people."
Everyone I met was awesome. There was Julie and her boyfriend from Tampa, Alex, Amy, Vanessa, etc. Dunno if any of you post here but I give you greetings nonetheless.
I was in the front and center section of the main Amphitheater, second row, middle, the whole time. I was wearing a grey collared shirt and black pants with black shoes. Sound familiar? Pictures will be up later.
I wish I could have gone to Opium to see Ferry, but I'm waaaay too tired. It was all I could do to drag myself home.
Anyone see Ferry and Sasha/Digweed? I missed both of them.

Hey darkace:
Nice post. I agree with you on Sander Kleinenberg. I heard half of his set and it was hot. Sasha & Digweed and Zabliela were simply amazing. Ferry's set was seamless and beautiful. :tongue2
What happened to Oakey's hair? I'm curious now... |

for me Tiesto was the man of the night!!
Although I must admit, when the "technical difficulties" occured in the beginning I was having flashbacks of when I saw him @ Gatecrasher in the NEC haha...
but 2 songs made my night:
Barber's Adagio (tiesto remix)!! I closed my eyes and I was back at Tiesto In Concert. I had such goosebumps I thought I was going to jump all the way to the clouds ahahha
and of course
SILENCE!!! I've only seen tiesto 2 times that he spun this track, but this is the track that made me listen ONLY to trance. I listened to trance before but this track made me convert to a pure EDM fan :) So I was in a little Utopia. I closed my eyes and I was back in Europe.... Even if it was only for a few hours ;):whip: |
aww i'm so glad to hear you're back to the roots. :) |

My friend's first words when he saw Oakey's new hair style were "it looks like Han Solo meets Justin Timberlake."
I feel bad bashing the guy so much though...he was mixing while I was still in diapers, but still, he's just not the man he was back in '99. |

Holy crap, I don't even know where to begin!! I'll just start, in no particular order.
I got to Miami Friday night with Phil and his friend and we drove to Boni's house and met Jon O'Bir and Company ;) and then drove off to the airport (where we just were because we got lost) to pick up Bo and Dom (FiloandPeri) which of course we got lost on the way to the hotel (Don't worry, I drive better high! :stongue: )
They left for their hotel while I parked my car in the nastiest and most overpriced garage in the world. We then showered and headed to PVD, which was... wicked sick. OMFG, Sick! (as Dom would say) He played an AMAZING set, and I danced my heart out! We left after Paul when Marco started simply because we didn't have any energy. We went back to the hotel room and tried to pass out (unsucessfully for me, I got no sleep that night, at ALL). The next day we went to eat when we woke up and headed to ULTRA about three ish p.m.
I chilled with Ian and Johan before Johan's set and laughed my ass off as Johan was drinking straight vodka in a cup with ice to make it look like water. Johan then played an AWESOME set and stayed on longer than he was supposed to. (the whole time Pat (breakinbeats) was dancing like crazy!! )
After Johan we all went to go see Tiesto, which rocked my world!!!!!! We ended up pissing a bunch of ppl off and getting a couple rows to ourselves. Tiesto ended with "Silence" and I swear, I thought I was going to have a heart attack it was so good!
Oakenfold SUCKED, I can't believe P.Diddy had the guts to come on stage! What was he thinking?!?! :whip: We left go see Ferry and ran straight into Bo and Dom, who joined us. Everyone kind of lost each other while Digweed (blew) played but we all found each other again in the middle of Ferry. Ferry's set was also absolutely wicked, though we had to leave early to make it to PVD. PVD blew, imho, compared to Friday night. Not sure if it was just the echo, but it sounded like he trainwrecked the whole flippin' time.
We then left and went and chilled in the hotel the rest of the night and woke up today barely conscious to try and go to the beach which never happened and then we went to the dinner, which was amazing (THANK YOU DAMON FOR ORGANIZING IT!) and then Pat and I drove home. (He drove!)
Okay, that was the wicked short version, because I simply don't have enough energy for a FULL blown review, but I will make my shout outs-
(In no particular order)
LeeAnn- I LOVE YOU!!! You are awesome, I had a great time *PWNED* My lesbian lover ;) "This is the bowl that never ennnnnnds yes it goes on and on my frieeeends... our friend Scott started packing it but we didnt know how much till we started smoking it and realized this is the bowl that never ends...."
Scott- "YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA I won the smokeout!!!" "I'm Fiiiiiine!" You busted out with the Glowsticks and omg that was the ! I can't thank you both (and leeann) enough for being so great!

Phil- I can't believe you were at Space the whole time! Grrrr you should have been dancing with us! :whip:
Bo & Dom- I'm putting you two together because you always were together! You two cracked me up to no end, glad I met you. *and I am NOT moody, and I maintain that you did NOT call me back :stongue:*

Quick Review:
PVD at space rocked.
Marco v at space enormusly asome!(The place should have been full the whole time he played, i guess more dancin room for me!)
I was the last TA at space ^that^ night.
Ultra:
D:fuse was ok
Deepsky should have played old stuff.
Electric skychurch was asome.
Johan Geilen wOW! I danced harder and longer than anyone there!
Missed way out west:(
Junkie xl was creative.
Tiesto was huge! First time i've ever seen him.
Laughed at Pjerky
Upset at oakenfold for doin that, then listened to sunrise.
Left chemical bros, they almost made me fall asleep.
Sasha and digweed good combo.
Ferry Corsten was great! I was one of the only ones who went apsolutly nuts.(crowd was dead)
rabbit in the moon was creative but no flow to the show.
Richie Hawtin did not play the hard techo style i love.
PVd had the crowd goin.
The mess up at tiesto was a system difficulty. The people who set up those ttables, mixer, an/or system, should be fired. Sound engineers like myself should not have fawol ups like that.
James and Macej thanks for letting me crash at your hotel room!
I absolutly loved the TA dinner thank you all for comin!! Soo much food! Dancin and meetin up with all TAs is my fave!!! I hated to leave early, school is a bieotch. Sara nice talk on the way home
;) :D i think ill add more later. All i have to say to everyone is i had a wonderful time.:D |

all of you bashing oakenfold, put a damn sock in it. he wasn't the number 1 DJ in the world for nothing.
I’d have to say that after this weekend, my 2 favorite DJ’s are Timo & Oakey (went to crobar on friday for Timo). Oakenfold is the MAN, and I have always thought this. He explores new genres and he’s good at mixing and producing pretty much every category, and most often collaborates them in just one set. That is talent. I wasn’t dancing much during Tiesto. JunkieXL got me going w/ a few tracks and then Tiesto was disappointing to me. I think I was too anxious for Oakey to come on, so I wasn’t really into the few sets before him (we didn’t get to ultra until 5:00) I first started out listening to hip hop music (in middle school) and I also went through an alternative/rock phase (I still love both genres), so I am really into new school breaks and progressive breaks/progressive trance with guitar samples and hip hop style beats. I love really complicated beats w/ deep melody and even distorted female vocals, so Oakey hit the spot for me. There was this one song that he started out with and I got up during that song and didn’t stop dancing during his whole set. I had to leave towards the end of his set though, because there was a group of punks who were trying to start trouble with my boyfriend and all of our crew. So that put a damper on the whole experience, because there was a lot of tension going on during Oakey’s set. We left after that, and went to get ready to head over to Crobar for Carl Cox. We had reservations at Mansion for Ferry, but we took too long getting ready and they gave our reservation away, which sucked. So we’re in line at Crobar for about 20 minutes and we’re about to get in for free because my boyfriend has hookups there, when all of a sudden there is this big commotion, and people are pushing around in line. I look over, and here comes no one else but Puff Daddy with his entourage and body guards, so we split right after that, because it would have taken another 45 minutes before they let other people in for the club. So then we go to some stupid little bar called Jade and just started drinking until about 4. Then we headed to Space afterhours.
LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING ABOUT CLUB SPACE AND THE PATIO/BACKYARD AREA... that has got to be THE most disturbing Fcuking scene I have ever encountered in my entire life. I have never seen so many jacked up retards in one place. It was like walking around in an insance asylum on acid. I walked past a guy who was drenched in sweat w/ a beet red face and huge pupils tripping out and rubbing his face with a very worried look on his face like he thought something was on his face that wasn’t. I have only gone to Space several times for major DJ’s, and I never liked the club or the crowd. Sunday night (or morning I should say) did it for me. I will most likely never step foot in that club again. Bunch of dirty ass people in there. HOWEVER, deep dish was tearin it up:D
Arturo: You and I must have some sort of weird connection, because EVERY time I go to big events in south beach, like Space or Ultra, I ALWAYS run into you within 20 minutes of being there. Last year, you were the first person I saw as I walked through the gates at Ultra…I always see you at Space too…and then yesterday as we were walking up to Ultra to get in, I told my boyfriend that I had a feeling I was going to run into you, and what do you know;) |
