Well, well, well. Cal - nice to see you alive and well. Thanks for chiming in - this response is probably more than I should offer in your regard, as any more than that would require stepping down to your level, but I could never step that low, no matter how hard I tried. With that said - be well.
AS for the rest of responses you're entitled to your opinion as much as i am to mine. Let's face it - you probably won't influence my opinion as much as i won't influence yours. Sure, you can justify just about everything if you have a lopsided view. Just remember - history is written by victors. Consider the source of your "facts".
Now, speaking of MEDIA CONTROLLING THE PUBLIC, how's that any different from religion controlling public? The only difference, you don't see people justifying their actions by what they read in the media. "Gee, your honor, I killed this man/woman/child/family because CNN told me so". I'm not saying the Bible or any other "holly book" teaches that - but people use them to justify their terrible actions.
Again, I'm not trying to bash the "story" - it's how it is told, what I am taking offence with. Can you summarize the meaning of the movie for me? If you saw the movie, what did you feel while watching? Did it bring you closer to God? Did it teach you to "love thy neighbor"?
...All of you, chiming in on how wrong I am in my perceptions, how stupid or telling me to STFU - consider this: At this very moment, there are roughly 1/6 of the planet's population that want to kill you and me because of the perceived evil that "The wicked West/America" has brought on the world. They don't care that you didn't do it or no one you know wants to inflict harm onto them, they view you as one big herd: "westerners", "Crusaders", "Americans", "infidels", etc. Convince them... While you're at it, show them the movie "Seige" or "True Lies" or any other movie where muslims are killed because they are a threat. Let me know how it works out.

| mel gibson's fathers beliefs about religion were sort of twisted and distorted, i don't think he was too fond of anyone unless they were christian/catholic. i don't think mel is the same but i'm pretty sure that he follows alot of what his father believed. :| i dont think he should be blamed for what happened at the synagogue, but the more i hear about the movie and gibson the less i want to see it. |

I personally think it's ridiculous that people have to censor that into which they put in their creativity, hard work, and dedication just to ensure that a few stupid people don't do something bad. Hey, if I made a movie tomorrow, where it shows how slaves were murdered, how they were tortured and raped, showed the struggle and opression by white men and geared it towards the African-American community, would you be concerned? Would you feel safer (assuming you're white) walking around a "black" neighborhood at night, shortly after watching the movie at local theater?
Watch "Amistad" (without paying too much attention to Anthony Hopkins being the "white knight in shining armor") - tell me how you'd feel if you were black men/woman. Now, hang a sign in front of your church that says "Kill whitey" and see if it goes unnoticed.

i don't understand all the fuss.... how is reporting the FACTS (whether you believe the facts in the bible is another debate altogether) related to racism??? the jews, AT THE TIME, were responsible for killing jesus (and at the same time you can probably blame the romans too...) so what??? no one is blaming the jews of today... if someone wants to condemn the jews of today for something that was done in the past, then they were probably racists BEFORE seeing the passion.
the next time we make a WW2 movie, are we supposed to just leave out the fact that hitler was a german? maybe some people might start beating up germans when they see that movie... |

Dude what FACTS are you referring to here?? Nothing is factual about that story. Jesus did live, but NOBODY knows the exact circumstances. |

well, Biblically, Pilat had the ultimate say in what happened. He had the power to stop it, and chose not to. I would blame him.

the facts of the bible... the movie is based on the bible... whether you believe the bible or not, that's just a different debate... but many people do believe in the historical accuracy of the bible... plus there are other historical documents that mention jesus and stuff...
the point is, the gospels are NOT meant to be anti-semetic.... that's just the way things happened (again, under the assumption that you believe the bible is true...) |
