| well, maybe he is so expensive cause he was considered the best a long time. He is called (called doesnt mean he is) the best. U2 tickets cost you 80 bucks, if u are far away. madonna is the same, and the shows dont last more than 2 hours. most people that are considered the best, become expensive.Perhaps thats why the tickets are more expensive, he is becoming more a pop star |

I just keep wondering what Oakenjoke's claim to fame is.
He is a parvenu (look that up). |

I was quite impressed with Liquid Todd, who opened up for Oakie, and also thought that Krishna (right after Oakie) was pretty good.
While I don't profess to be the biggest Oakie fan, I think that he does possess a good deal of talent, and whether you like him or not you shouldn't deny that. His sets as of late are nothing in comparison to his 1999 performances such as Gatecrasher, Essential Mix @Space in Ibiza, etc., but IMO they still get the crowd moving. I don't see why he gets paid as much as he does (I was told by some Buzz promoters that he pocketed $22,000 from Friday's performance), but I went with the hopes that Oakie would spin a much better set than the one at Buzz on April 8th, and I wasn't disappointed. I don't think that he ever trainwrecked, but not too far into his set I did hear where it sounded like he bumped the table too hard, jumping the needle on the record. Anyway, his last two songs ended the set on a great note as they were both incredible.
It was packed and I found it hard to really dance like I usually do, but I found it enjoyable nevertheless.
This coming Friday is the Scott Henry CD release party at Buzz, and then on Saturday D:Fuse will be at Glow again which should also kick butt! See you there! |

5. His God like attitude & demeanor |
Jesus Twilo, when are you ever going to stop your bitching about Oakenfold! Of every single TA i've ever seen on these boards, you are by far and away the most hostile person on here when it comes to disliking a DJ... you'd think that Oakie killed your family.
I find it mildly ironic that you criticize and bash Oakie more than everyone else put together, and have probably seen him less times than my little sister. Always riding on the heels of what others have said, quoting these "magazines" and "newspapers" all the time. Well i am curious as to what magazines you subscribe to...
I have already adressed all these issues you have with Oakie, countless times on these boards.... do i need to re-emphasize?
Ok, here it goes:
1) He's Cheesy....... b/c of track selection? he is playing the same records as half the other DJ's out there right now, so unless you qualify people like Jules, Tiesto, Digweed, and Ferry as "cheesy", then i think you might want to rebuke that comment... (and yes, i said those names in the same sentence - Oakie is spinning progressive house, techno, and trance altogether now...)
2)He plays the same songs...... this is totally a BS arguement now. Its obvious that he doesn't play all the same songs.... i've seen him 5 times in the last 2 years, and i've only heard 4 records repeated TOTAL! and everyone else has been saying the same thing on these boards as far as track selection.... NOT AN ISSUE anymore, Twilo.... this isn't '99 or '00...... so get off of it already.
3) Plays old songs, anthems or what every other DJ is playing.... LoL.... the only "old" song he is playing is Piledriver by Ameobassasin (which is not even a year old), and every ONCE in awhile will throw in a classic just for old times sake, (and this track will vary depending on city and/or set...) And as far as playing anthems, WTF is wrong with THAT? Thats the point, to build up a set and throw down an anthem to make everyone happy...... as i can recall everyone does this, INCLUDING your beloved PvD (uh..... "for an angel" anyone?) And "what every other DJ is playing"..... this is the most BS statement i've ever heard outta ya.... This is trance, honey, they SPIN trance records! Do you want Oakie to throw a Metallica record in? How about Alanis Morissette? There are few producers, many DJ's, and they will spin what they like, and what the crowds respond too.... don't make me count how many records Tiesto, PvD, and Ferry all have in common!
4) Plays for only 2 hours and tickets are more than $40..... First of all, DUH that tickets are going to be $40 or more! do you think a club is going to pay premium and then only charge ten bucks? HAH! I don't know how it is up there in fantasyland, but down here on South Beach, ANY DJ for ANY event, tickets are ALWAYS over $40, Oakie or not! In the events Oakie has been here, yes, tickets were around $40, but so were the tickets for Rabbit in the Moon, Kimball Collins, Picotto, etc... The only time i payed more than $40 to see Oakie was for Mekka that just happened down here, and i paid $45, but there were over 20 DJ's there! I am sick of you bitching about expensive tickets to Oakie shows.... I have told you a million times, OAKIE DOES NOT SET THE EVENT PRICES!! Uh... the clubs and promoters do *DUH*... Oakie charges a fixed amount (around 22G's i think per 2 hours) for a set.... He can charge what he wants, b/c people pay it... its economics! Most venues will charge the traditional $40 special-appearance charge, if your clubs are charging more, then obviously they are either money-hungry or are losing serious money. Why does Oakie always do 2 hour sets you ask? Well, for starters i've seen him do 3.5 hours once. The main reason would be $$. A club doesn't want to pay any more than they do. Its not b/c Oakie "can't take it"..... When i saw him in February at the WMC (winter music conference) here in Miami right after Ultra, he played a 2 hour set at Space, then left and did his 2 hour set at Shadow Lounge..... Sometimes having to do more than 1 venue will cause you to keep it short and sweet..... another reason is oftentimes Oakie is not the only one performing (If Oakie was the ONLY one performing, this is VERY rare - every time i've seen him (8 times now), he was always the title act that had at least 2-3 DJ's opening for him)..... you have to give each DJ a time frame - most clubs give each DJ a bracket of time.... not ALL clubs, just most. I know PvD and Tenaglia have pulled those enormously long sets, but hey, i don't see a lot of other "big name" DJ's doing this, its not "required", so why are you using this as a reason to "hate" someone?
5) His God Like Attitude and Demeanor.... This i've also gone over a million times.... Every person has a different experience with the DJ's..... some will say this person is an , some will say this person is nice..... it all depends on the night you meet them and what happened that night. I've met Oakie twice, and he was cool as hell both times. Others have said he's an . I don't doubt them. Hey, I can be an sometimes. So can my sister, and even my dad.... when you are upset about something, or something is bothering you, you get upset. Some people don't have good nights. Just because he's a DJ does not mean he sacrificed his right to have moods and bad nights. Do all DJ's have to sign a 'document' waiving their rights to not feel good? .. I must've missed it! I've heard horror stories about PvD and Tiesto, but I am not the person to trash the big guys on here b/c i know that everyone has bad days, and you can't let one experience or time make your (and in Twilo's case) everyone else's decisions for them.... And as far as feeling like God, i know about that article you are going to claim Twilo, and Oakie already cleared everything up, it was a misquote! And if he does act like he's better, fine. So be it. I'd say a good 75% or greater of all celebrities have some sense of feeling better than everybody. Its human nature when surrounded by fame and wealth. Like men wanting sex.... So be it. As long as he continues to spin good music, and his attitude doesn't affect my life, I'M not going to complain.
Twilogoddess, just do me a favor and READ this, this time so i don't have to write it all out again in the future!
Cheers

I speak my mind...these are MY OWN opinions. btw, I subscribe to Car & Driver, Allure, & Cosmopolitan. & As matter a fact the magazines barely every say anything negative about Oakenfold.
It's blatantly obvious from your novel of a post that my strong opinions on Oakie offend you. I think he's overrated, what are u gonna do about it? I'm entitled to form & express my opinion w/out U telling me I'm hostile. My opinion is actually the miniority, most ta's like Oakenfold. & That's fine, I really could care less.
I'm really sick of fighting bout Oakenfold. If u like him good for U! I don't give a . I was just post someone's experience after seeing him 2 days ago. |
