Wow, Sandstorm, you're like a CIA interviewer man... I like the intimidating questions... very entertaining thread.

I personally hope JOOF's style will be the future, but I can't see uplifting just dying out.

um why?

like i stated before just about every track in every genere is "progressive," i couldnt name a single deprogressive/regressive track

Ferry Corsten - Rock your Body Rock

It's got influences from electroclash, which is a retro genre by default.

Ferry Corsten - Rock your Body Rock
still has a build...meaning it progresses

The term progressive refers to the history/influences of the tune, not the structure of the tune. Otherwise every tune would be "progressive" till the end, when it would suddenly become "regressive" :)

...i dont know about that... it def has to deal with structure, im not a producer so i couldnt tell you the exact difference between "progressive," "house" and "trance". A lot has to do with the build of the track with the beats, and the melody of the track. Just listen to each type, you can easaly notice a difference.

Like trance 16/32/64 consecuative beats...16/32 beat breakdown...16/32/64 consecuative beats...16/32 beat breakdown...16/32/64 consecuative beats... most of the time with a building melody, that changes every 16-32-64 beats....bpm also plays a part

ferry corsten-rock your body is ofcourse not progressive but the BIGGEST childish hard electro-crap i ve ever heard!!! nothing and ride are trance???summer man or whatever u are called better stick with ferry corsten. Yes lets hope that quality trance will evolve into that melodic-prog of the holden/schulz/guvenen school as were done with the breakdowns!!!!no more 140bpms, the same euphoric synth and the breakdown in the middle!!! we had enough from 98!!!damn...

It is indeed about the history... it's a long explanation, with Leftfield doing a different kind of music and stuff ;)

Take my word as a producer :)
sandstorm03
so the difference in trance and prog is the history? Is it like the difference between being russian and asian?

LOL classic arguement, depends, depends, depends...

Progressive is a sub-genre. For instance, it will always be Progressive Trance, Progressive House, Progressive (something). Therefore it will not be possible for"Trance" to evolve into "Progressive", because progressive itself does not make a genre.

You can say Trance is changing in styles, but evolvolution is not the case.

Simply put, "Progressive Trance" doesn't exists without its mother "Trance."

this is an old thread but a good one i think..i think its gunna be progressive in five years..there will be trance, but i think progressive will grow into something HUGE..but thats just me
torontotrance
It started from house then went to trash then progressive elements entered with the famous prog trance phase then most of those deejays went to playing progressive, and now most of them have gone to playing prog breaks and other stuff.
