Trance is evolving... into Progressive (pg. 2)

i think that its better to say that progressive evolved out of trance... i have loads of progressive house reords that are labelled "deep trance" by the record stores, before progressive house became a catch all for several different sounds of music.

i think that what trance is doing is not evolving toward something else but perfecting and raising the bar for what it already does-- make beautiful melodies with lush layers. epic and big room trance has not always been the standard. it wasn't until the whole dj sammy/ian van dahl period of terrible trance that that stereotype was created. trance, initially, was just as subtle, "intelligent," and musical as progressive house was at its inception.

now prog has gone down into some sort of boring, chuggy sleepiness, where as initially it was just a bit darker, deeper, and a tad bit slower. i mean, consider danny howells' nu breed, or the second disc of digweed's global underground 19, or the much overlooked gu 16 by dave seaman. at the time they seemed a lot darker and slower, but in retrospect, there's trance all over them.

and by the way, does no one remember the term "progressive trance"? someone said that they thought that prog-trance was the future, but its the past... and i think, once again, its the present, as djs like armin return to the ideas of progression and telling stories through their sets the way that sasha still manages to do, and that whole english crew that went progressive (nick warren, dave seaman, and digweed) used to be famous for. armin's not doing anything NEW, exactly, he's just doing it BETTER than anyone has done in years, and he happens to be extremely talented and hard working.

Everyone IS getting a little proggy if you think about it. Just look at Tiesto - Just be.

Did you know that...

1) Epic trance actually came from progressive, as the productions started to become more and more melodic, so the name "progressive" doesn't mean it's new or anything, but rather a phenomena that happened in the 90'es?

2) They're independent and no one is evolving into anything (but as any other genre, there are influences from one on another)

Trance evolves with personal tastes which are yours only so some people go into prog, some into techno, some stay with the trance as it is, but the whole point is that it goes where you want to take it, nowhere else

... reason why, for me, it's evolving into drum'n'bass. Shall I turn this into an absolute truth? ;)

hehe for me im enjoying techno & psy a lot more than i probably would a while back, nothing to do with them being more intelligent or anything, just the way I'm naturally drifting, which proves with yourself, mine & masters that his point about ending in prog is wrong :p

ps been there with d&b in 1993-7 :stongue:

I used to listen to it too, but for some reason lately I've been listening a lot to it again... and to hard house/nrg :p

I miss Eurodance too... and happy hardcore: proof that I also listen to music despite of its intelligence :toothless

I made a recommendation and then asked a question, then we got some replies and everything was OK but then you came and I wonder why in the ing hell do you have to turn every ing thread into a goddamn flame war induced by your constantly arrogant personal insults. Everyone was giving their opinion but you had to show your cool-bad-boy attitude to begin the flamewar so then Cobalt joined and then Sandstorm03 (who, may I add, must be the ultimate ing trance guru this Sandstorm03).

Seriously if you want to give your opinion please don't do it by starting personal attacks. Your opinion is welcome but leave the personal attacks.
