I made a recommendation and then asked a question, then we got some replies and everything was OK but then you came and I wonder why in the ing hell do you have to turn every ing thread into a goddamn flame war induced by your constantly arrogant personal insults. Everyone was giving their opinion but you had to show your cool-bad-boy attitude to begin the flamewar so then Cobalt joined and then Sandstorm03 (who, may I add, must be the ultimate ing trance guru this Sandstorm03).

I AM THE F***ING TRANCE GURU...KNOW YOUR ROLE AND SHUT YOUR MOUTH!

Just because armin van boring & MS are playing more prog now, it doesnt mean trance is evolving into prog...Listen to the other 100 trance djs out there and tell me this.

But of course you are the Ultimate ing Trance Guru, Sandstorm03, no one is arguing that, Sandstorm03.

good...there have always been a good few prog tracks that big "trance" djs have played...an example is holden & thompson - nothing, but it didnt lead to a change of style in other tracks being played.

keep in mind that Progressive means its progressive______. prog house or prog trance.. and holden & thompson - nothing is most definitely PROGRESSIVE TRANCE. remember ppl, trance doesnt necessarily mean 140+bpm melodic euphoric epic. checkout Nick Warren's GU 024.. a perfect example of progressive trance in recent years..:p
sandstorm03
well if you want to say that...then you can say every track out there just about is progressive... deprogressive tracks would be just pointless, thats why i feel this thread is kinda stupid. If you feel progressive for exaple sasha's airdawndagger, is taking over for trance such as stuff like above and beyond's stuff your wrong.

Excellent, I appreciate your opinion and thank you for giving it in a polite way, but next time try not to begin with statements like this:

tell me where, exactly, did I said trance is dead?

My opinion on the original topic is that i think there has been a defnite shift in the style of popular trance as compared to the late nineties. That shift has indeed pushed trance closer to prog, sometimes blurring the line between the two. I think this is inevitable, since the concept of putting two good things together and seeing what you get is as old as human thought itself. One only needs to compare DJ mixes from the late nineties to those of today to see this.

I also personally think a lot of 'trance' today is very boring and unoriginal. Maybe im a traditionalist but there are very few productions recently to match those of trance in its heyday. I think prog is the answer to this. The epic trance sound has to take a seat, at least temporarily, because it's been so overdone it just can't reinvent itself. I am a fan of the style but new productions just can't hold my attention. I think the direction trance IS going and SHOULD go is a blend of prog and epic, like the original post mentioned.

I think more artists need to experiment with breaks and D n'B as well, or take a listen to some Twisted Records stuff (Shpongle, OTT, Prometheus) for some inspiration. That kind of stuff could spark my love for trance again.

And maybe is my impression but this makes me wonder, is Trance evolving into Progressive?
