And the reasion why i would like to have trance to get more exposure becouse i wish our djs would get a litlebvit more respect from the mainstream people and dont look at or categorize our music as mindless, computer generated drug music.I wish people would look at us different and not like we are some drugged out person for listening to a xtc music |
Now that I agree on. There's this one person at out school... "Trance is not music, you can't make music with computers, people who make trance are all sweaty computer-nerds etc." |

lol
I know in america people say techno sucks becouse people don't play on instruments.
The thing is; computer, synth, drum machine is a instruments just like drums, guitar and etc.
The difference between them is they make different sounds |

| the mainstream issue happens with all genres... punk.... kids think real punk is Blink 182. sigh. heavy metal, etc. mainstreaming music is good in that it promotes competition and evaluation of the music within the youth of society, but it can lead down a slippery slope in that this is when the music companies come in and write your songs and look for a pretty personality to be a "dj" or an "artist" etc. i'm all about mainstreaming trance. in fact, we do have some good stuff here in the States that gets radio time... but of course... the radio time is like midnite to 2am... go figure :( |

i think another reason is that most people over here just don't understand the complexity of making a song. while a band uses 4 instruments (generally) to compose, a real techno song can have tens of sounds.

i'm probably an arrogant american too...so my oppinion...
I personally would also like to see it stay underground, not because i want to be cool and different, but because i think that it really effects the quality of the music. i think that this has clearly already started to happen in Europe and the US with a lot of the music that is starting to get air play both on radio stations and big name dj's. some might not see tiesto/armin/oakenfold/pvd as catering to this, but just because they aren't plaing Dj Sammy - Heaven doesn't mean that the style hasn't changed to accomidate the growing audience to the genre. i think that this would become even worse if the united states became as big a market as Europe is now.
As far as why people like this music to begin with. i think that a lot of americans have come to this genre because it is different. i think that is a natural feeling to want to differenciate oneself from others. i don't know how to prove that i'm not one of those, but i think that it is pretty obvious by my obsessive-amount of time spent here on the boards and researching/making the music that my interest extends far beyond that.
the reason that people seem to follow trends is because society tells us to. by idealizing certain things in a social context, we encourage people to seek out that which we praise. its the same reason why people like rap. not because they truly enjoyed the music style (now of course some do, but i would say the vast majority started listening to it later than sooner) but because they see it as a way to become a part of the popular crowd or whatever...basically the opposite force than what drives people to be different.
i don't wanna say too much because i want to respond to anyone's critics of what i said... |

Dunno. There's only one way to find out.

And why do you bitchin all the time about, " Oh my friends hate trance becouse they never heard real trance and they all think Dj Sammy is techno and why trance isnt as popular as it is in Europe and why teenagers likes rap but trance."
But when somebody says ok what if the radio and mtv would start playing trance then you guys say ," I hope trance will never be mainstream and i dont want people to like trance becouse its popular."
So you guys have arrogant comments sometimes. |
Actually, that's not really arrogance. Anyway, the majority of the bad stigmas associated with electronic music here in the states is because we have stupid lawmakers, who like to turn one isolated incicent (i.e., drug overdose at a music event or club that played electronica) into a very high-profile campaign against the clubbing lifestyle and the music associated with it. And then there are other issues.
Personally, I don't give a what kind of music anybody else likes. If I like a song, I play it, regardless of whether or not it's popular or "trendy." If someone happens to hear it and likes it, then great; if not, whatever. That's fine. I really don't care what they're into. That's not to say that I don't want more people to be exposed to electronic music though, as I really really do. But their specific tastes don't matter to me. I'll listen to trance whether it's "mainstream" or not, because I like it--not because it might be the newest trend, or because it's underground and it's "cool" to be associated with that. I listen to it just for the music. Who the hell cares if it becomes mainstream.
I'm glad you realize this isn't an issue with every American. |
