I personally would also like to see it stay underground, not because i want to be cool and different, but because i think that it really effects the quality of the music. i think that this has clearly already started to happen in Europe and the US with a lot of the music that is starting to get air play both on radio stations and big name dj's. some might not see tiesto/armin/oakenfold/pvd as catering to this, but just because they aren't plaing Dj Sammy - Heaven doesn't mean that the style hasn't changed to accomidate the growing audience to the genre. i think that this would become even worse if the united states became as big a market as Europe is now.

As far as why people like this music to begin with. i think that a lot of americans have come to this genre because it is different. i think that is a natural feeling to want to differenciate oneself from others. i don't know how to prove that i'm not one of those, but i think that it is pretty obvious by my obsessive-amount of time spent here on the boards and researching/making the music that my interest extends far beyond that.

the reason that people seem to follow trends is because society tells us to. by idealizing certain things in a social context, we encourage people to seek out that which we praise. its the same reason why people like rap. not because they truly enjoyed the music style (now of course some do, but i would say the vast majority started listening to it later than sooner) but because they see it as a way to become a part of the popular crowd or whatever...basically the opposite force than what drives people to be different.

i don't wanna say too much because i want to respond to anyone's critics of what i said...

Feckin' right ON! why the HELL is this guy asking this dumbass question in the first place? Doesn't everyone remember what happened to Oakey?

popularity/radio/mtv/mainstream = UP......Quality = DOWN

Hey I listen to trance and only trance only, yet i'm not ignorant. I hate those ignorant americans with their pop music. I am so different from them.

I almost threw up writing that I swear.

Ad Hominem.

Anyway, they play some trance on European MTV, but that's not the main contributor to the popularity. The main reason I think is the exposure in the form of festivals and huge parties. Plus there are more Trance artists over here.

Ok i dont try to say all of the American Ta's are arrogant, im talking about the ones who says " I only like trance becouse its underground and i hope it will never be mainstream."

Ok my question is, if you would live in Europe would you hate trance ? Becouse you know in Europe trance is popular and Mtv, VH1 and most tv and radio stations play trance on they playlist.

And why do you bitchin all the time about, " Oh my friends hate trance becouse they never heard real trance and they all think Dj Sammy is techno and why trance isnt as popular as it is in Europe and why teenagers likes rap but trance."

But when somebody says ok what if the radio and mtv would start playing trance then you guys say ," I hope trance will never be mainstream and i dont want people to like trance becouse its popular."

Ok well why trance is big in Europe ? Becouse the radio stations play trance.

So you guys have arrogant comments sometimes. It doesnt incloudes every American Ta's

ive lived in europe, but here in tampa where i live now, i havnt found but 1 or 2 people who even listen to trance. i just got this girls numba who said its all she listens to, so im happy about that, but other than that, i wish i had friends that listened to trance. it wouldnt be that good if mtv or vh1 here started playin trance. i dunno, in america, it just doesnt fit.

there should be a channel, just for electronica. thatde be cool.

HINT: money money money

To contrary belief (as I've been demonstrated to by some ignorant people here at my school), Americans (sorry for the generalization, this does not go for a lot of people of course) are subject to way more drugabuse than 'Europeans'. I am from The Netherlands and when I told this kid that they smoked more pot in the US than we did in NL he called me a liar. This was coming from somebody who said he "quit pot in 8th grade".

i think another reason is that most people over here just don't understand the complexity of making a song. while a band uses 4 instruments (generally) to compose, a real techno song can have tens of sounds.

woohoo another american that uses the word techno to generalize

I love trance, its for sure my favorite.

I was born and lived in England, but now I live over here in the U.S. and spread the word that trance is the best.

Most people in the U.S. listen to Rap/Hip-Hop which I cannot stand! lol..
