I just did, read my previous post. I don't know what this guy has posted before, so pardon me for not noticing any racist overtones.

That's funny, whenever I've looked up official sources on racism, they say racism is when you consider a particular group of people (race if you will) to be inferior/less worth than your own. I don't see how just the statement "black people are overrated" can makes draw that conclusion..

Well, something that's overrated is overrated in relation to something. And if we're talking about a race in particular as being overrated, it is overrated in relation to other races. So yes, he is inferring some sort of inferiority to that race.

Anyway, in the US there's no question that that kind of comment is racist. You might see things differently in Norway, but in the southern US (where the Aldrian fella is from) racial tensions are a paramount part of its history. Giving qualitative rates to a race is most definitely racist in this part of the world.

Not necessarily. By overrated I believe the meaning is simply the fact that they have received a way bigger amount of praise from some party than they deserve in one manner or another. However, that does not necessarily mean that the person who state that they are overrated at the same time thinks they are inferior to his own race. (not taking into consideration any overtones etc.)

I'm sure it would be perceived as racist over here too, that does not mean that I think it is correct.

But qualitative assessments on which "overrating" is based on is always derived from a specific context, and there's no doubt that Aldrian's remarks were made with the intention of being inflammatory and demeaning towards that race.

If someone says that the perception of a particular skin color is overrated, then there would be no problem. But Aldrian's comment have a charge that imply a general rating of races, indirectly placing one below his own or any other that he doesn't consider as being "overrated".

This is subjective, of course. Otherwise, slavery and racial/ethnic discrimination would never occur.

Like I said, I don't know what he has posted earlier, but seeing as this:

quote:

black people and rap music

is all he said in his post, I fail to see how he displays a racist attitude, since that statement can be interpreted in several ways. But I assume his previous posts are good enough evidence to draw the conclusion that he is racist since you are all reacting the way you are.

This isn't directed at me is it? :conf:

if you percieve yourself to be better than every individual, or most individuals from a certain race, be it black, white, yellow, red of flashing pink, yep you're ing racist.

(this is not directed to anyone in particular)

ok i would agree...

so if you consider someone inferior because of other circumstances other than pure racial ethnicity, you are not racist. you might have a prejudice towards a certain people (in my example above white trash, school drop outs)...but you aren't racist...
