| I failed to mention, for those who cannot understand how seriously we take our hockey and why Canada is wounded at this moment. You play a game and you lose in the championship game, you got 2nd but that's not good enough because sports is win or lose..simple as that. Sounds brutal but I remember the championship game we lost (I still have flashbacks of that cheap goal they got to win it)....close but not good enough. |

Just reading some posts in that FL thread. I don't know who a lot of the flames fans think they are, but , it's not Calgary has no bandwagon fans either. Seriously your team couldn't even come close to selling out the saddledome for the past 5 years, so just because everyone in the city decided to be diehard once the playoffs started doesn't mean you're the craziest hockey city in the world or anything.
God, as a Vancouver fan it makes me sick how many loser bandwagon hopping idiots the canucks have "supporting" them when they do well, that remarkably disappear and write us off if we happen to lose 2 games in a row or something.
That said, there are a lot of people in Calgary whose summers are more or less ruined now (until the Stampede anyways =P); don't think it would have been quite the same thing had TBay lost.
Welp, time to enjoy Euro 2004, and the Olympics, and then rest up for the main event at the end of August. World Cup of Hockey baby; can't ing wait! |
Oh we all hate the bandwagon fans. The ones who dont know what icing is or offside.:whip:

The point is that you could get 8 dollar stanley cup finals tickets in tampa.
Tampa is a team known for terible fans. They had to give away 22 thousand white t-shirts to get that white out thing to work. (This was game 5 of the finals)
During the regular season there was free beer at the stadium to try and get people in. |

Yes, and it's for that reason (the fans) that I was avidly supporting calgary, despite the fact that I've hated the flames for as long as I can remember (getting dominated by them all 80s, and then seeing them knock out Vancouver AND Montreal in 89 made them unlikable for me =P). And while I'm one that can definitely hold hockey grudges like the best of them, I definitely felt that the calgary fans deserved the cup far more than tampa bay fans. I'm sure there are a lot of die hard TBay fans out there, and to all of the ones that watched every regular season game you reasonably could and of course every playoff game, I'm happy for you and hope you savour it. I had my small victories this year seeing MTL come back against Boston and seeing the Leafs lose, but I can only imagine how retardedly happy I'd be if Van won the cup. Seeing the habs do it in 93 was awesome, but I wasn't anywhere near the sort of hockey fanatic then as I am now.
As for Trance Control saying no Canadian team will win the cup for a while... call me a biased idiot but I still think Vancouver will win it next year, and would have won it this year had the whole Bertuzzi incident not happened. Oh well, "what ifs" are for idiots =P |

no silly, this game is slow compared to other stanley cup games, not to other sports... you can't argue with that, i mean the first shot on net didn't even come until well into the 1st period. and don't try and say "well its because both these teams are so good..." ha!
you canadians are crazy about hockey thats no lie. i played hockey for 12 years here but stopped in college because our school didn't have a team. i knew someone would say something like "well we're gunna beat your ass come november etc..." well, the stanley cup is over, calgary lost, the hell with november its not the stanley cup.
its no doubt most of the teams here have international players but if canada is so friggin gung ho and all why don't they refuse to play on anything but a canadian team? i am looking forward to the world cup games, i won't be betting this time tho, no sir :D
and about the americans and guns things... yeah, i am an american, good at shooting a rifle, an expert marksman btw. whats it to you, i am not going to kill anyone. people kill people, not guns. its like what, there are no knives or guns in canada. put a cap on the hate-a-rade there guys, let it rest.
just to let you know since cleveland doesn't have a NHL team, the teams i usually root for are pittsburg (closest) and montreal (favourite). so there, see i do love canadians! (group hug) :p |

| Yet we show up come playoff time for the American teams, if I was a Canadian hockey player, I rather play in Canada for a Canadian team...call me old fashioned. |

you florida folk who are saying calgary are going to regret this next time you get hit by a hurricane.
Ill be laughing at you then. and im not kidding.
honestly, this city is in shock.
its like your whole family has died, and you are the only one left. We care about the flames that much. its heartwrenching. I nearly cried. Thats how devastating their losing is to us. What the flames are represents calgary to a t. they arent the flashiest, or the most skilled, but they have incredible incredible amounts of heart, with a great work ethic. That is Calgary. Its why this city took no time to rally behind them. We are a sports city who loves our teams. the flames(NHL), stamps(CFL) and roughnecks(NLL)
Sure you won(officially) but that deflection from Gelinas was in (and there was no kicking motion) and Fraser handed you a couple soft power plays(yes, he did give them back to us, but whats the difference with 20 seconds left when youre already down a guy?)
To the guy who says were just a flash in the pan, and TB is a serious contender, ill see you next post season(doubtfull its next year) Dont forget that Calgary was out 5 starters. You think Gauthier wouldnt have had an incredible impact on the series? Oh you bet he would have!
And in the meantime, all you florida fans have turned your glorious celebration into bashing the guys who put you on the brink. That is poor sportsmanship but hey, what else can I expect from Americans?(so is my whining about the refs, but I thought fraser was that bad in games 4 and 7)
so, congrats on the win, enjoy it, and just remember.
Hurricane season is only a few months away.
Ill be laughing then. |

First of all...if you read what I wrote in the thread in the FL forum you would see my view on Canada.
Now to the important part of your post...
Losing/winning a GAME is NOTHING in comparison to being hit by a hurricane and having people lose their homes and/or their LIVES. People DIE as a result of hurricanes. How could you possibly even joke about that and think it is funny? Oh wait...you said you weren't kidding. Up until now people have said some crazy things, but nothing compares to your post. Incredibly stupid posts like that are the reason why people come on here and hate each other. I have zero respect for you...after wishing death and destruction on people. Of course I know you don't care...you wouldn't have written that if you did. Go ahead and laugh when hurricanes hit the states...if that is what you need to feel better about losing a game. You are so right...a game being played by OTHER people is the defining moment in your life...it defines who you are as a person.
Spare me by saying it was a joke and I need to lighten up. All these angry Calgary fans need to lighten up. Sad day for you if all you have in your life is hockey. |

This is why I was rooting for Calgary despite disliking the Flames. There really are a lot of people up here whose summers are more or less ruined as a result of this. |

who’s the sore loser here?
I’m proud of all the Florida teams the last year or so. Marlins won the world series, Miami Heat made it pretty far in the finals, and now Tampa won the Stanley cup. I think we’re showing everyone we can hang...
just because most of the teams are fairly new, doesn’t mean there’s no talent, or loyal, die hard fans. |

Damn right!
Can't forget the Bucs winning the Super Bowl in 2003! :D |

you just said yay tampa making you a good winner.
you werent one of the 'flames suck, dont deserve to be there etc'
To trancebrat...you dont live here.
it is devastating like losing your family. Thats how much Calgary related to this team. They are everything that we as calgarians and canadians stand for. |
