I don't suspect many are reading this thread, so it would be a poor way of gaining attention. On the other hand, if true, it might lend some credibility to the assumption that I'm not an idiot.

Also, skipping grades means nothing really. And about your award-winning papers, what does field quantum computing have to do with bending spoons? |
Quantum mechanics seems to be the most reasonable entry point for purported 'psi' effects, actually. How it relates specifically to spoon bending, I couldn't say. |

And ofcourse, you can prove all of this. |
I am posting this in the TA forum just to see if anyone else has heard of it.
For a more evidence-flavored discussion, visit the JREF forum: http://www.randi.org/vbulletin/foru....php?forumid=15
It is being discussed at great length there. Suffice it to say that it cannot be dismissed out-of-hand. |

Well, if you're so smart, then you would notice that you can see how many times your thread has been viewed ;). Around 800 at this time.

You mean, you can't say, because you can't explain it, because it's all just a hoax.
Ohwell, not gonna waste any more time on this matter. Well, I probably will, but I shouldn't :p |

GelatinPufF, that is a mighty arrogant response, considering you don't know me. I would venture to guess I am *considerably* smarter than you (without having to mention the number of grades I've skipped, or the award-winning papers I've published in the field quantum computing ;)). I am also a member of the James Randi Educational Forums, where skeptics debate these things in great depth. If it is so easily done, I invite you to bend the head of a stainless steel spoon.
So I suggest you consider a third option: I'm very well aware of how "tricks" are done, and that the audience members are not magicians; I've done considerable research on the possible methods of fraud; my friends are skeptics who brought their own spoons, researched the claim (including methods of deception and fraud), and still obtained results; the results occurred as reported, and we don't know everything about science.
Down, Fido. |
Well thanks for the in depth explanation of the acadmeic achievments you so claim to possess. They've really convinced me into believeing that you're a highly intelligent and rational young man. Hopefully your in-depth studies and extensive background in the field of spoon bending will lead you into a managerial position in a spoon manufacturing facility. Good luck! |

If the inability to explain something by currently known scientific theories were proof of a hoax, then we'd have a hard time progressing in science, hmm?

What's the danger in investigating something that many respected, intelligent people have made a claim of? In the worst case, you'll discover what's really causing these people to be deluded. I'd be perfectly happy with a resolution that could demonstrate why the spoon heads were bent that didn't use psi--after all, sheer physical strength has been shown to be insufficient. But as of yet, the only responses here have been along the lines of "this is too stupid to talk about."
Personally, I'm more interested in people's violent reactions against its possibility. But the "you're an idiot" argument isn't doing much to sway me. |

uhhhm, I have a digital camera that can record 30 seconds of MPEG. I'll pull a spoon out from my kitchen draw, repeatedly slam/smash and attempt to bend it an attempt to show you that it's un-bendable, and in less then 10 seconds bend and melt its head with my finger tips due to my magical godlike powers.
You do know that this is one of magics oldest tricks right? |

there's a lot of things we can't explain, that makes all of them a hoax too?
it's funny how people are willing to give up on things that sound bizarre so easily, how do any of us know if our sciences cover everything that happens in the univers. we don't, try and keep an open mind people. I gotta continue reading this thread after I come back from work, sounds interesting. |

The fact that you can't explain something doesn't have to mean there is a progression in science. It can also mean that you are looking in the wrong places, or there's nothing to explain. |

i am actualyl gonna be studying thigns like this. Superstition and PAranormal things.
To me it is utter , but since I am delving into research design I guess I have to go further than stating my opinion.
I can alreayd think of a few conditions to impose on testing this 'phenomenon'.
do some of those links you posted have info on the history of spoon bending? that would be a good place to start in finding out what is actually bending the spoon.
it owuld be cool if I set something up this semester at school. I enjoy debunking this stuff. I mean.....figuring it out.
hehe its tough to keep an open mind, but I do somehow. |
