My question is, what does he mean by techno, I mean in the states, techno to a bunch of people is cheesy eurodance. Nik is right as well |
Ya, I don't know how to explain to a lot of people that what they think is techno is not techno, it's impossible to reverse all the bull that's in their head like all the commercials for super-cheese compilations etc.
I mean at the Virgin Megastore I just bought Sasha's Involver Limited Edition (Loving it btw) and on the Virgin sticker it said
TECHNO
SASHA
*LTD* INVOLVER

Eh, you people are no better than him. It's just that most of you are prejudiced against anything that's not trance.
You sit here judging everything you do not like, bashing every genre (heaven forbid if it's mainstream! It must be destroyed!) and when someone does the same about your precious music you get mad like it were blasphemy.
Besides, what does it matter anyway? It's just one guys opinion... |
agreed, the guy is just a ing hick, who cares, I don't like rock and rap, I don't talk about those genres just because they are not for me, certain genres are for certain people, let's just leave it at that |

...one thing always makes me wonder...why EDM is slagged off the most!?..and vice versa ,"bad boys" music such as garage and rap music are always appreciated by the majority of people. Dont see ppl slandering rap or other type of music..but dance. we always have to suffer for some reason!
a good job we dont give up, so let's keep it up people!! :) |

eh...
yes and no..
mystery you've got a point because how often have there been threads on here dissing hip hop or rap or country or etc...?
so yeah i see what you're saying about us just being like him, being narrow-minder and prejudiced about our own musical tastes.
I just think that sometimes we can be a little bit more mature about our preferences by not doing like this. How many times have you heard of people complaining about no trance being played in a club or no techno being played on the radio?
its a small world we live in, so why should we let 1 guys opionion bother us so? |

I like how he throws in "new rock music" at the end there. To me, this indicates that he isn't just some ignorant EDM-bashing redneck. I think he is probably some shut-in golden-age-radio-phile who listens to tapes on his mom's stereo on headphones at home. He probably was begrudgingly dragged to a club by someone and found the expereince intollerable. For some reason news sources seem to highlight the fringe extremists in society. Just because their opinion is in a printed source, doesn't mean that it represents a large part of the population.
That being said, Omaha probably sucks ass and you need to move. :p |

if we didnt have all these RAVE acts and laws being passed to limit our exposure to EDM music....
it seems like every year we have to fight the battle between music & drugs...

I don't think he quite understood your point, which was perfectly legitimate and correct. |

Hey, give it time. It's not unusual for humans to be scared of technology -- and specifically, the accelerative thrust that comes with technological change -- in whatever shape or form it arrives on our doorsteps.
Some people are still afraid of computers. Thus, it makes sense that they would be afraid of computer music. But times are a-changin' and in a few decades, all the hullabaloo will fade out as something more "threatening" comes along. And over the last 25 years, computers have gone from hi-tech gimmicks to necessary fundamentals of life on Planet Earth.
You know what I say? Sometimes the quiet revolutions are the best ones -- rule by subtlety, that's what I say. It's like giving someone food and they go "YUMMY!" but you don't tell them what went into that stew . . .
I guess some folks would rather not know that their "all natural" rock albums have been computer-edited excessively, but alas, that's their choice.
Remember the controversy over electric guitars?
