Well...now that I have officially "popped" my so called cherry at Boa (finally) last night/this morning, I can actually write a review on it and verify every single good thing I have heard about it.
First of all, staff friendliness:
All the rumours are true for the most part. When we were being searched the bouncers were courteous and generally well mannered. Though I didn't see it personally, I can bet some of the bouncers and bartenders were tearing up the dance floor occasionally.
Next, the sound system:
Again, nothing much here to point out except for a quote directly from Mr. Tenaglia himself, "Holy ! I can't believe how good this sound system is." That should give you a pretty good idea of how sick the system is there (as if you hadn't already heard).
The Venue:
Aside from the small lettering on the front of the building (which only seems to be 15-20 feet wide), it looks like an old run down Chinese theatre (even barring the original name). However, on the inside it is a completely different story...When we came through the front door/side door (I don't know which should be considered which!), we were in a decent size, up-scaled lounge with some tables and chairs and a nice bar. So far so good...Then we travelled up 2 sets of stairs to arrive in a very spacious rather empty looking (at the time) room complete with multiple stairs to "climb" to get to the back of the bar...oh! and we musn't forget the ever so fitting rope lights to accommodate those stairs. The stairs weren't that hard to deal with as long as you looked where you were going and took your time. Also, spread all over the room were very nice long curtains (I think white and Purple?) (nice touch). Overall, lots of space to move even though it seemed pretty packed (which is a good thing because with that kick-ass sound system you have trouble keeping still).
Finally, the DJ & crowd vibe:
I can't say enough about how talented/classy/much of a people's DJ Danny Tenaglia is. Between his outstanding track selection, massive involvement and interaction with the crowd (nice flashlights, Danny :) ), and humorous comments throughout his set, he was able to keep every single person within listening distance focused directly on him and the music. Which brings up my next point about crowd vibe:
For the most part, I was quite happy the crowd. It seemed like everyone was just too busy dancing or dropping jaws at what Danny was doing to even have time to develop any attitude. So, my thanks to everyone who was there because you all obviously have one priority that is where it should be...music! And it seems it was on the top of everyone's list last night.
With all that being said (sorry, that was a lot to read. However, I think it was deserving of a very long and detailed review) I would like to thank Boa for finally landing Danny Tenaglia after a long two year fight to get him. I would like to thank Danny Tenaglia for doing what was expected of him (completely blow us away with the most awesome dirty tribal house any house music fan could ask for). And to everyone who was there that made the vibe that much friendlier and comfortable. I would also like to thank Floorwhore (formally TECHno addict a.k.a. Jeff Button) for one, picking up our tickets. And two, organizing the T.A. pre-meet at Bird Lounge with the free shirts and everything (much appreciated Jeff).
So that’s it...there it all is. Boa is THE place to be. Keep up the good work Boa and you will be seeing me, and I'm sure a lot of others filling up your dance floor as long as you keep doing what your doing. Take care all and I hope you all are having an awesome end to an awesome Canada Day. Till next time,
Greg Thornton

wow. danny was amazing. i was able to stay past 6am w/a tummy ache and no more than 1 red bull in my system. i met some awesome ppl (there were also some ridiculously hot men there ast night and not all of them were gay!). I enjoyed the vibe of the night, and my GOD- some of teh tacks DT droped- at one point i turned to those around me and pointed up at him and said 'listen to this- this is ing beautiful' DT is def best heard on a sound system that does him justice. incredible. (altho i don't think boa's system is quite as good as stereo's- there's a ceratian lushness that stereo's has that is missing from boa's).
it was great to see some TA's out and to see the rest of my lovely friends. IT WAS AMAZING TO HAVE MY ERIKA (ER-BEAR) BACK WITH ME. |

Just for the record, Danny T finished up at 2:00pm!!! The only TAs I saw at the end were obviously myself and Sly_Guy. I know that Highroller left with some other ppl at like 1:30.
Words cannot describe how amazing the night was!!! Always endearing himself to the crowd, Danny took some time to mingle in the crowd and I was able to meet him! :D
The choice of tracks was INSANE. Honestly, he punished us! He never let up!!! Ohh man, I can't believe I stayed until the end!
As for some tracks he played, I do remember a few only:
Layla (??? Remix) - Cream
Girls can be Cruel (Original Mix) - Infusion
Touch Me (Danny Tenaglia Remix) [Has never been released] - Rui Da Silva
Music is the Answer - Danny Tenaglia
It's Love (Trippin') (??? Remix) - Matrix vs Goldtrix <--- It was not the Drum and Bass remix, most likely a tribal one.
It was great to confirm the identities of some TAs I had not met previously. Great to see Highroller, Newr, Callie5, Tatgirl, Floorwhore, Max Q and the others to which I can't remember at this point because I've been awake for like 30+ hours now! :haha:
The vibe was absolutely AMAZING. Sly_Guy and I definetly had some "Stereo Moments" as Danny T totally killed us!!! The crowd was an older one but even though so many people were not in their "normal" states of mind, I don't think anything bad happened at the club!
Also, after like 1:30pm, he started putting on 80s tunes and other stuff that any other DJ would be booed for... The man is a legend, 28 years and counting! ;)
I had a chance to speak with the owner of Boa about residencies with Sander K and DT... Both are still in talks at present for quarterly residencies.
As always, the staff was very courteous and helpful. Kudos to them!
Alright, I can't sleep so I'll be at Promise Beach tonight! Hope to see you all at the Guv for Sasha!!! :D |

Danny Tenaglia kicked ASS!!! He is truly a GOD!!!
The music was so amazing it almost felt surreal. The crowd was just as great. HOT, fun people just having an amazing time and truly feeling DT's acoustic delivery. No attitude or pretentious people bringing down the house. No sketch!
Just all around a night to remember!!! Never mind the Titanic! |

absolutely incredible party! my first time at boa and my first time seeing danny t, and now i understand why this man is a legend!
he played so many different styles of music, and it all sounded fantastic. i love how he bounces around the booth and gets on the mic to talk to the crowd every once in a while. he loves what he does, and it shows.
the only way i can sum up the night is 'wow'.
he started his set at like 1230/1245ish.

That's so right. I've never stayed out for so long so I'm still tired as hell and can't think straight, but all I have to say is that the rumours are all true!
First of all Danny Tenaglia is a class act. He actually came out of the booth near the beginning of his set and went around shaking hands with everyone and chatting. Joked around a bit up there (not too much though). And doing his own lights... that was awesome to watch, never seen any other DJ do that. Someone said to me that 21 years of experience will make you that good, but I beg to differ after seeing so many DJs sell out after less than 10! Danny rocks!
The sound was truly amazing, it was blasting all night but I never needed earplugs and had no ringing. It was so clear, not a touch of distortion! Only thing that could make it better is speakers on the patio too. :)
Speaking of which... the patio, that is a LIFE SAVER when you're sweating buckets at the club (and I guess it's good for the smokers too :p). Best idea ever! The layout inside is great too - there were lots of people but I didn't find a lot of traffic or people pushing around.
Finally the crowd was the best I've ever seen in my year and a half of partying. Totally different from the typical EDM scene, sorta like the System crowd but even friendlier and a more even ratio. NOT a fight AT ALL, there were many many beautiful girls AND they were all very friendly!
I could be saying so much more but I don't know how right now... just WOW, I think that was the best party I've ever been to.
On a personal note, it was nice to meet a lot of the new tranceaddicts at the Bird pre-party and the event itself. And I owe a personal thanks to a few of you also - you know who you are. :) Great way to break back into party mode after a 6-month hiatus! Peace out! |
