| quote: | | How is admitting guilt to crimeS (said that one for simcut) and offering restitution to the victims beating the system? |
If you steal something, hold onto it for 2 months, and then offer to gradually return it over a period of time after much duress, you do not change the fact that you are a criminal. While returning the money is certainly the proper course of action, it does not change the fact that you commited a crime.
There are factors other than the the raw monetary value of an item, and you have impacted people's lives beyond the immediately evident financial harm. There is emotional duress, there is effort expended, there is lost interest and lost purchasing power. As for me, I have been unable to purchase the item I require as this has all dragged on, mired in uncertainly. You have done real harm to real people through your crimes, even should you return the funds at some point.
If you returned all of my money today, would I just walk away from this? I honestly don't know the answer to that.
If I just walked away, then you certainly would have managed to beat the system. You would have consumed countless hours of my and other forum members' lives that were spent trying to right what you have done, and you effectively would exit the situation no worse than you entered - save for a lost eBay account and some bad blood on a forum. You would even have effectively managed some really wonderful terms on a $2300 loan - 0% interest with no payments.
If I had just walked away to begin with, then you might still be scamming people now. Hell, for all I know, you still could be doing so elsewhere - I cannot truly believe you now, and you must surely understand why. Once somebody has demonstrated that he is a liar countless times over, it is indeed very hard to prove the negative.
My sense of justice tells me that every avenue should be pursued, that walking away now is absolutely the wrong thing to do. But I must admit that you've worn me down so much over the past months that I would strongly consider taking the money and walking away, just so the whole god forsaken mess could be out of my life.
And maybe you are right after all, maybe the system will just completely fail. It's really a quite depressing thought.
Of course, that is all moot anyway. You cannot or will not return all of my money promptly, for reasons that are (to me at least) largely irrelevant, and I could not accept delayed installement payments even if I did trust you to provide them. You could be telling the truth, you could be lying - all I know is that I gave you $2300 in good faith for a product you did not provide me, and here we are, two months later, with you unable to present a solution that is acceptable.
I can only do what I can do, and continue as I have.
Barring new information or another compelling reason to comment, this will likely be my last post here, as I feel I have explained my situation and my options completely to the affected members of this forum, who fortunately appear to be faring much better at this point than I am. I do hope that the information I have been able to provide has been of some help to you all.

Ant, its not a matter of that, its just that its going to open up a lot more doors, and at this point in time, I am trying to bring closure to this all.
By next week I know for sure 4/5 victims will be paid off. I am hoping d3020 receives his money today. He is the one who brought the whole drama to public view on the board, so he is one I am happy will receive payment now, rather than later.
Scorpion, I am going to go to the post office today to send you an international money order.
Tegu, I am pretty sure next Tuesday is when I will send your payment. I will also overnight it to you since you had such a huge amount of money taken from you.
Sound good guys? |

Jeremey, thanks for clarifying. You are right. If I walk away from this with just the same amount of money as I walked in with, technically I am beating system. However, that is not the case. As of now, this is going to haunt me for the rest of the life because anyone who googles my name will be able to view all of this. I have lost a lot more than you think. I have lost something so priceless, which is my good name.
Keep in mind that my offer was not to pay you in installments. My offer was that you sell the powerbook I sent you for whatever amount you can possibly get on eBay, and then I can pay you the FULL difference between what you got on eBay and the $2300 you paid me. This way you could have your money in 1 week, rather than the months its going to take me to earn $2300. Keep in mind I support myself. I pay my own rent, utilities, tuition, and various living expenses.
Say you sold the powerbook on eBay for $1500. I would then reimburse you the $800 that would add up to you $2300 total.

Stop fabricating and speculating. I will never do something like this again. Do you really think I would immediately start scamming people after I have been publicly humiliated?
Since this is your last post, I will just communicate with you on AIM if thats fine.
Cheers. |

A really strange thing just happened.
I turned on the TV and the movie Boiling Room came on. If you guys havent seen it, its about this guy who gets a job at this brokerage firm that scams people by selling them shares to fake companies
I came in on the scene when the main character just ed this guy out of his life savings of $50,000. Then he meets up with his dad and his dad says "You lying sack of . How many people have yo ed over Seth? How many? You work for a chop shop Seth. Tell me, how much money have you made them Seth, come on , tell me. How many lives have you ruined. I dont want to ever see you again Seth."
It instantly made me think of my whole situation here. I may have not gone so far as to ruin peoples lives, but I did hurt 5 people and cause them a lot of pain. |

My question is:
You say you don't have the money to give them, well some of them anyway. Where did it go? It wouldnt have been any more than a month ago you recieved all this money.
Anyway i hope you sort stuff out Spective, i think its good you have at least admitted your wrongs and are making an effort to repay the people. All i can suggest is, put yourself in the people you lied to shoes. How would they be feeling? Would you like to be cheated like that? A Quote from the good ol' bible: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. :) Thats my advice. I hope you are able to move on from this and your depression. |

I am disappointed Spective. I've seen you around TA, on #vandit and in pictures with other TAs through the years. I've known of you since spectivedance.com with your interview with Sander and Second Sun. I've browsed through your many records sales on ebay. It is absolutely shocking to read all this because I didn't think you were that type of person.

You're done more than cheat 5 people of their money. You've stole the confidence of fellow TA member towards each other. Even if you did repay everyone, you can never return that confidence. All this talk about how sorry you are, at the end, is just talk. Return the money as soon as possible and maybe someone will believe you truly are sorry. |

Thanks for a very fair and constructive post Stamper.
Like I said, if I mentioned exactly where the money went, it would just open a whole row of doors. I really need to try bringing closure to this.
I will try my best to beat my depression, and learn from this mistake. Its definitely been an experience that makes me look in the mirroe often and ask "why are you?" |

Scott. Having known me all these years, you know that I havent always been like this. It was just this lapse in judgement, and I ed up. You know how involved I am in the industry and the scene. You know the type of contacts I keep.
Ive said it before, ive said it a 100 times, and Ill say it one more time for you Scott. 1 person out of the 5 has been paid. The 2nd person should be receiving his money in the mail today. The third person will have his money mailed out by tomorrow at latest. The 4th person will have his money mailed by next Tuesday. The 5th person is the powerbook dude, and he I will try coming to some sort of agreement via AIM.
I apologize to you Scott. Just try not to label me as a criminal for the rest of my life. I know that wont happen until people see good things coming from me, but rest assured, these will be actions, not words. |

^ Sim. I am starting to understand now why a couple years back on the TA chat, I asked if Simcut does TA radio anymore, and everyone started laughing and talking about you. They made you out to be some type of moron.
I always thought of you as a good person. I used to love listening to you on TA radio, and having yo playing my requests.
Frankly though, all you do is twist my words around. Just because I told one person his post was fair, doesnt mean I didnt think yours wasnt. You are like some kind of woman who you try to compliment by saying "Wow you look really beautiful today" and instead of saying thanks, you say "What? So I wasnt beautiful any other days?"
I do agree with you that it wasnt fair for me to rip them off. How many times have I condemned my own actions since posting this thread? Too many to count. Stop acting and posting as if I have no regrets for what I did, and that I believe I am right.
I am completely wrong in my actions that I took against these 5 innocent people. I am completely ed up for doing this time them. However, I know that I still have a good heart. I know of all the the good things I have done in the past and what I plan to do in the future. |

you have a bloody cheek to start giving me e etc, I have done NOTHING wrong, you have done all the wrong here..! :\ |
