Not really. It's more prominent than you believe.
At least, in the US. Worldwide figures aren't very accurate. |

well i say its rare just because of the amount of time it takes to maeke an ACCURATE diagnosis. i know its kinda a popular term right now n its really been thrown around as of late but i have not seen any actual figures so i am unaware how many ppl actually have it in the states |

i'm diagnosed with bipolar II disorder..
yay!
means i don't go full fledged manic or depressed but the episodes of hypomania and moderate depression tend to last for good amounts of time.. they're not just mood swings.
i'm taking 100 mg lamictal and 10 mg zyprexa. i'm about to ask my psychiatrist to change me to risperdal instead of zyprexa cause it's slowed my metabolism down way too much.
also, the antipsychotics make me so tired.. i'm gonna see if he'll put me on provigil.. it's a mild stimulant that would hopefully combat the lethargy.
anyway.. if you wanna know anything about bipolar just ask away. i'm not ashamed of it.. i'm mentally interesting.
:D |

I have it permanently, esp in the last couple of months, it's almost non-stop due to a personal loss & other stuff. The problem is that doctors over here hand out pills so easily that so many people think they're depressed when they've only ever had 1 or 2 moments of feeling bad |
I know what you mean. I've was diagnosed with chronic severe clinical depression aobut 7 years ago and i hate it when i hear somebody say "i don't know, i guess i'm depressed". The worst is when they follow it with a smile. It makes me want to slit their throat. |

that's very true. i was diagnosed with unipolar depression for 2 good years.. tried 3 different SSRI antidepressants (lexapro 10mg, zoloft 100mg, and cymbalta 60mg) with no luck. then my general doctor referred me to a psychiatrist who after a 500 question survey thing determined i have bipolar II.
most people who end up finally diagnosed as bipolar go through up to 20 years of misdiagnoseses (according to some article i read.) |

are the 'blues' so real?
EVERYBODY has THE most ty ISSUES no one has ever heard of or may want to hear...
if they need to be heard do that professionally. the personal solutions are more difficult but much more rewarding.
eat nice, do something in the sun, stop bitching, work harder.
if you try those, for reals, and then work on the harder - maybe something might hopefully possibly happen. nothing is for sure in this life, you have to work your ass off and consider the possibilities| |

nah see. true depression will have you in bed and you won't have the motivation to get up. my dad used to say the same thing you did till he asked a psychologist if he should be forcing me to get out and work in the yard or something. the times he would do that i'd basically be a zombie and get nothing accomplished.
the mania aspect of my disorder is almost as bad except it's a natural high.. can't sleep, spending sprees, alcohol abuse, can't shut the up.
it's a natural high but it's not right. it's best to find the middle ground and my meds help with that. i'm just starting to get stablized and i'm glad. cause coming off of the mania i'd go into depression and it makes it that much worse. hope you can understand what i mean. |

I think only people with depression understand what depression is. Most people with out it are ignorant towards it. |
