| trance has lots of melodies....and lots of melodies = easier to have melodies clash....so u have to find a right place to mix out of so wont clash. |

yes, trance is the only genre with tracks that are written in a key. |

Manuel Le Saux every live mix I got from him directly or listening to his weekly show, FLAWLESS,
Pulser saw him last Friday(08/06/04 spun an awesome three hour set)
Envio, listening to his Summer Session 2004 set right now, and it is absolutely flawless.
Matt Hardwick - his nov 2003 promo mix on TA hub is incredible

John Digweed or Danny Tenaglia have to be the most technically sound deejays out there. I did not get a chance to see Tenaglia live because it was 70 bucks a ticket :( but I've seen Digweed, technically flawless
btw. I better see no one mention Tiesto, cuz if you do, you have not seen him live :stongue: |

I would like to add a bit a caution to those who read this thread:
I personally beleive that just becuase someone is technically flawless it does not mean that a Dj is good. Yes Armin, Tiesto, PVd, etc are not the best. BUT they are extremely good producers, remixers, and party starters. Obvisouly they are goood becuase they would be charging $24,000 per gig.
I hate going to see a DJ and stand around saying to myslf " Man this music is boring but hey he's a great mixer"
First of all if the music he/she is playing sucks than I dont care how good of a mixer you are , you cant interest people on the dance floor or myself.
There needs to be a balance between technically ability and programming. I think the balance should be 65% msuic selection 35% techncial skills
I think some of the best DJ's are able to strike this balance well.
Those that strike this balance are:
Armin Van Buuren
Paul Van Dyk
Tiesto
Markus Schulz
Ferry Corsten
Deep Dish
Ronksi speed....other top djs
and many others.
I think people that are impressionable need to be warned or cautioned not to listen to DJ's because they are technically flawless.
there is a diffence in a fans involment and interest if he/she really likes the music the dj spins spins rahter than becuase the dj everyone else is saying he/she should listen to that dj.
All my grips with dj's have been about the programming of a DJ set.My complaints about Tiesto were about his sh!tty music he played whne he was in chicago. For Paul Van Dyk, I complain about him playing the occasionaly annoying and repptitive techno sh!t he drops after some of those great tunes he show cases. and my list of cmplaints goes on... but its always been about the music not the techinical .
I dont do drugs ( well I stopped a long time ago, I was a freakin teenage being curious). I like intellegent music. And I like to dance. I prefer to go to clubs to hear msuic not try to get wasted and/or rub on some girls ass. And I am a DJ myself.Becuase of my personality I think there is a diffence in what I expect or like in my music or a dj set.
I would not like to make sweeping generalizations on the types of people that listen to certain type of music but we all know there are cerntian people with certain perosnalities that like or prefer a certain type of music.
A better question would be based on your personality what type of music do you like. I bet you will find that peope with similar personalities/age/expereinces/ like the same type of music. Of course you will get outliers ( i.e. trend followers , people who dont give a sh!t, etc.)

I find it refreshing how all the greats seem to be connected in one tangible way or another. Carl Cox had some very kind things to say about James Zabiela, and of course, Sasha has heralded Zabiela as the CDJ wunderkind deckslinger he is.
I think it's fine to have stuff clash harmonically if you can resolve that tension -- from dissonance to consonance. Playing around with the sound can make for rather amazing effects that really work the audience on a big dancefloor. |
