I used to spin trance when I first started....oh the days of vinyl...then I made the switch to cdj for a year, then I guess in your probable opinion, turned to the dark side and started playing house. But I still mix trance here n there, and also dabble in some darker style dnb. But yes...my style now ranges from electro house to tech house to dark progressive tribal type stuff. |
Oh God VINYL. CDJs for the win dude. After I learned how to play on CDJs then on Pioneer DJS, I tried again with my Gemini turntables. That is a BITCH. :whip:
The only house I even come close to playing is hard house, like the stuff Yoji plays, because it's such a high BPM and brutal and nasty. Beyond that, I refuse to play any other form of house, prog, most prog trance and stuff. I was listening to Charlie Solana play some tribal house. Dude I was half-sober and I still couldn't figure out how he mixed from track to track. |

Electrohouse can be pretty nasty. Check out a song called "Needle Trip" by Dirtcaps...get the Jaimie Fanatic dub mix of it...nasty track. And talk about nasty? Ever seen Angello, Ingrosso and Axwell play backtobacktoback? oh. my. god. Second best set ive ever seen in my life next to a 6 hour set by armin under the brooklyn bridge.....and even there he was playing swedish house tunes!:eyespop: :eyespop: :eyespop: |

In my opinion, all mixing....including vinyl comes down to being able to beatmatch by ear, and not use beatcouters...which if you haven't noticed, are very unreliable...especially on the cdj-1000's...they work sometimes, but most of the time I wouldn't bet my mix on them. Thats why I covered my beatcounters up with electrical tape and retrained my ear :D |

To be honest, I never quite thought of it that way. When I play, I do what I can, when I can. Not trying to get gigs or anything (my stage fright is too great for that rofl) and besides that, I'm mainly out there to support my locals (Eric, Relik, Gerry, Edgar, etc.) |

Yeah I know what you mean for sure! Supporting the local scene is whats important anyhow! I know how that is for sure, I play house music in TALLAHASSEE. Christ! It's pretty much southern georgia....country music and horrible hiphop. I play house parties for kids who are into house, trance, any sort of edm...i'll take it. As far as getting paid, at a house party for scene kids, i'll take whatever they can spare, because its about the people and the music, not the money
.....but at the same time you bet your ass when i'm home in south florida I try and gig :D
listen to now - Marco V - Any Better, Or?
and i've decided that i'll upload some sort of mix soon. It will probably be an old mix from august, but whatever. I haven't gotten around to making a newer mix that I really enjoy, so you'll get some older stuff! |

bro believe it or not its actually much easer..u just need to take your time and queue it right.. the beatmatching is the same way you would beatmatch on a cdj...using the pitch to synchronize and follow the 64 counts as you sequence in and out of tracks.. but with cdj's their prevalant niche lies in the timer they have for the tracks..since u know EXACTLY when you need to start mixing instead of relying by ear. that stresses you out hardcore.
I have been buying alot of stuff from Beatport as Musicworld closed shop, and Grooveman Music has like 1 pile of like 20 records for their trance section now..its ridiculous.
admittedly now that i buy tracks on mp3 they are of much better quality (no longer analog but digital) and on beatport they update their stuff alot (altho they are still missing alot of serious choons) |
