So it's a waste of time to have thousands of people on a trance forum discussing trance? There are thousands of people that go through these forums everyday. People discuss what tunes are amazing. They discuss what songs they heard on ASOT last week, and recommend others to listen.
Just check out the tracklisting section. Look at the ASOT threads, or the Trance Around the World (Above & Beyond's show) threads. People are gawking and awing at the choons.
If it's such a waste of time, why do people go to the tracklisting section at all? Why do we even bother having a tracklisting section?
Because it DOES matter. People do want to know what the names and the producers of the tunes they love. Hell, we even have a Track ID section so that people can find out what that long lost ch00n was from 2001.
The average forum browser are not even 'in the business'. Not everyone in the tracklisting forum is a dj or a producer. They are just doods like me who take an interest in something they love.
It is these people that fuel the clubs. I mean, sure, there are alot of people who have no idea and don't care about what is being played at the club. These people just go there to take off their shirt and dance and/or do drugs. The majority of the people are at the club because they love the music (whether it be trance, or other genres). |

Everytime I go down to Montreal to see Armin, PVD, etc. all I hear is non-trance (with the exeption of a few tunes here and there). When those dj's play in another city on the same weekend/tour, they drop trance.
figure that one out
I remember going to see Ferry Corsten back in 2002 at Aria. The crowed was going insane whenever he dropped trance (which was most of the night). This anti-trance attitude that people have is bull. "Montreal loves it hard", yet people go insane when trance is on.
One of the funniest things I ever saw at Aria (other than the PVD hissy fit), was when Gielen played there last. I remember that Yaz (or some other weekly resident) jumped on the decks right after Gielen finished. Gielen didn't even get a chance for an encore. But Yaz started up his progg (or whatever it's called) and Gielen (obviously annoyed) turned to him and made this gesture as if the music was repetitive and boring. I nearly broke out in tears it was so funny. |

hahaha right man... even on tranceaddict, the people who actually talk about trance productions and records don't even represent 10% of the members. And the whole tranceaddict membership doesn't even represent 0.01% of the people who go to clubs to party... get a grip on reality. There's more than some geek talk about trance from some members on tranceaddict. |

There are so many good genres of electronic music that I can barely even comprehend any of the arguments here. Seriously, if you don't like trance, I don't care, stfu. If you don't like anything except trance, I don't care, stfu.
People are talking about Vancouver like it's the trance capital of North America. The only reason 3/4 of those names are going to the city is because Danny and crew are bringing them there; until Danny, myself et al came along there was NO trance club scene at all in the city. As it stands, it's still not profitable there, and if it wasn't for the love of the music and the desire to do something different than the usual top40 crap, it wouldn't exist. Who knows how long those guys will keep it going to; promotion is fricken difficult. And the small trance names? Seriously, we've brought in a lot of them and they maybe bring out like 20-30 people to the club that wouldn't have otherwise been there. At a place like Aria this would be a complete joke and Biggy would be better bringing in a local trance DJ like Wizz, Voiz, or another good local as the draw would be identical and the tunes would be more or less as well (and the price would be 4x less).
Montreal's scene is quite diverse and the afterhours clubs are unmatched by anything in Vancouver. I have noticed a drought of international names recently (compared to previous months anyways), but it's still a great scene. Face it, nowhere in North America is good for trance, and if you don't like that the only thing you can do is start promoting it yourself.
Props to Biggy for giving us the trance we get. |

Besides don't tell me we aren't exposed to music other than trance; because we are exposed to non-trance everytime we go down to montreal to see Armin, Ferry, PVD, and the like. Not only from those dj's but, from their openers too. |
what a load of crap. Your going to the me that PVD, Ferry and Armin play what exactly. House, Techno aaaaaaaaaahahahahahhaa
yeah PVD sure plays some hard core Techno, I heard him and chris leibings sets sound almost Identical now. ....WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU
just because a trance DJ doesn't play a trance tracks for 100% of his set does not make he a non-trance DJ. that the stupidest thing i've ever heard in my life. Wake up, Armins never really played pure trance since.... ever. I have a bunch of his set from before 2000 and theres always been tons of prog, and a random electro/techno. This isn't some kind of new occurence here.
If you so dislike these DJs then why do you bother comming down for them.
As for the rest of these post stop whinning about lack of trance talent and be greatful that we get any. Canada isn't exactly a trance nation here. |

| Greg was never saying that these guys aren't trance djs. He was saying that he has been exposed to other types of genres that these djs play, PVD does play techno in some sets, Ferry plays electro and armin prog. He still enjoys these djs |

Dood, no one said you can't hate trance. No one said you aren't allowed to like other genres. So relax.

Yes, I would bring talent like that in too. Unfortunately I'm a poor student right now, so I can't take on the full brunt of the costs. But, I said just the other day that I'd pay $200 to see Thrillseekers and Above and Beyond spin for 3 hours each. If a bunch of us pitched in, it would cover the expenses. I would be willing to sacrafice 200 bones to hear A & B live! Mark my words, one day I will get some trance nights in the 'Twa.

Aria brought local trance tallent (Wizz) in once. Wizz is a sick dj (I heard him live in Ottawa). I'd totally support more trance if a club (not neccessarily Aria) in the montreal/Ottawa region was willing to actually get trance dj's. |

Exactly, I enjoy these DJs when they don't spin at Aria or at BEB |

| What DJs have come to montreal and only drew 20-30 people? They obviously werent promoted well enough to get good numbers, otherwise I would have heard about it. |

you don't read the posts... 20 to 30 than the usual crowd the club attracts on any given night. |
