someone confirm this great news. hopefully this is a start to something good in Israel among the Jewish crowd and the Muslim crowd.
You all do realize, that the only way this will work if they learn to live together?

Agreed. Arafat was used as a spokesperson for so long because there wasn't really another group to go to other than the PLO. It's sad to see someone dying, but it's also sad to see how much money that could have helped the Palestinian people go to Arafat and his family for personal gain. It's actually quite sick that his wife apparently gets $150,000 a month while people live in camps.
Without Arafat things aren't going to get any better, because there seems to be too much division amongst the people to have a clear representative to negotiate with Israel and even if there were, it doesn't seem like negotiations would go any better than they have in the past.
One thing is for sure though, the U.S. cannot be the mediator of such discussions whenever they resume, as Israel receives the largest portion of our foreign aid, most of which goes for military funding. I know the E.U. offered to negotiate and maybe this might be a better body, though tensions would run high,especially with the large Muslim populations growing in Europe. |
