Last report I heard was they stuck an extension cord up his ass and plugged it into 220v to keep his ticker running and hope alive for his terrorist following in Palestine. So who takes over as the head hoodlum if he dies? The head of the Al-Martyr Brigade or something?

| Marwan Barghouti should've taken Arafat's place but he's in Israeli jail for life. Now the PLO will probably fall apart as Islamic groups get more power and support. If Hamas takes over then Israel can forget about a two state solution. If any leader comes in and takes whatever Israel offers, the palestinians won't accept that, so Israelis must forget about someone more moderate than Arafat, cuz that's not happening. An Israeli today told me he was upset because Israel won't find a negotiating partner without Arafat. Who will negotiate? Hamas? lol, Mohamed Dahlan? No, the people don't really like that guy. There is no one that I can think of anyway. |

I hope his replacement will try to unify and pacify the Palestinians more than Arafat did.
Or the region could go into instability, and have extreme internal warfare.
Or we could get a replacement worse than the predecessor.
At least this is a sliver of hope for MidEast Peace. |

The Palestinians already have a Prime Minister and a peace plan developed around the role of a Palestinian Prime Minister. I beleive it is now Abbas turn to take control and voice the appeal for his call. Previously Arafat was the one preventing the role of a Prime Minister from developing fruitfully. Now there is no more Arafat and no more excuse.
The question is if Abbas will have the balls to make his role and appeal to the Palestinians. This is however what your PM, Blair, was talking about earlier today as well....
Obviously there will be some attempts from the Islamo facist to seize power and take advantage of the situation. However, I am sure that even the Palestinian terrorist groups know the harm if they attempt to be to ambitious. Arafat gave the terrorist the political and international cover/legitimacy that allowed them to operate. Without him, and with increased terror the Israeli response will only be more forceful as international and political opinions would disway from the Palestinian cause due to the influx of mindless terror.
The best chance for the terrorist is to actually keep a weak Abbas. This is my fear, that Abbas will not create a strong position. I think this outcome is what should most concern us all.
If Abbas is not strong, there should obviously be attempts to find a leader who will be. But if Abbas fails those that will replace him will be either more pro-Peace or pro-Terrorist according to how the events of the day demand and the outcome of how the next leader leans will determine its succes. I believe the Palestinians will not be able to afford more than 3 failed leaders before losing their cause all together.
Israel has always operated on a "Live let live" policy. I am sure they will be more tolerant than usual and give the new leadership time to emerge and prove its commitments.
Israel is interested in peace, and interested in a partner for peace. But Israel knows full well that it can have little to no hand in creating that partner. The Palestinians must reach that maturity themselves. But will the Palestinians reach that maturity?
The answer to that question is that answer to the following question: Has Arafat prevented the Palestinian peoples from maturing? |
