Hey would you say a DJ is an artist? or is a producer more of an artist? or are both DJs and producers artists ? and why?
Thanks

Compared to alot of the crap out there that's cosidered art, I'd say yes dj'ing is definitely an art.
Sorry that doesn't help much with your project :p |

i would have to disagree.
yes dj's play other peoples music but its the way they interpret the songs by using eq's, by adjusting the pitch, and by mixing the songs together to get a new sound. |

but technically speaking they arent musicians, there is some talent required unlinke creating music, is purely from the mind.
And nowdays due to its popularity has made it somewhat of a art, well the mixing has. |

| I think so...I look at it this way....Each track is like a piece of a puzzle and if they fit together properly then you wind up with a kewl picture. As long as the tracks are synched smoothly and that a DJ's set can take me "somewhere"...then I think its an art form...Some DJs are "good" but they miss that certain magic that only a handful of DJs have, wether they are locals or world famous ones. |

| djs are artist because i personally believe a set is a piece of music of it's own. More than jsut a collection of tracks created by other artists. |

| djs are fakers and only glorified by ppl on this site. if u consider djs artists u might as well consider me an artist with posts. |

well then u should also consider pop stars like britney spears artists as well. the industry doesnt consider them artists because they are only entertainers and vocalists and sing other peoples songs. but since we use their voice to produce a different sound i guess they are artists. Hilary Duff is now my fav artist and she better be yours |

Of course it is an art.
They select tracks and arrange them together to sound a certain way and to create a flow, they also adjust tracks like Gamma said. A DJ's set as a whole is definitly a "piece" of art. |

It's gray-area. There are many DJs who just throw on records and play with the EQ a bit and call themselves artists - those aren't artists. But there are others who splice tracks together, scratch records, add their own effects, and actually create something NEW every time they perform.
So I'd qualify it like this: DJing is an art, but not every DJ is an artist. It's just like regular art - I wouldn't be an artist if I cut out a bunch of magazine photos and glued them onto a piece of cardboard, but if I cut out single letters and words from various articles in different typefaces and used them to create ransom notes, that would definitely be art. |
