I noticed alot of people are using the Antec Sonata case here.
It looks mighty roomy on this pictar, but I read reviews that it's not as roomy as it looks. And it doesn't have a removable mobo tray. I would like this case, or the Antec P160. But the P160 is $50 or $60 more, and doens't come with a PS.
How do you guys (those of you that own the Sonata) like it? |

Well, ive heard nothing but great reviews about the sonata, but i wouldnt get one becuase i need lots of room for peripheral and hard drives, so im going for the ANTEC Performance Plus Case with 430W Power Supply, Model "PLUS1080AMG"
its an awesome case, 4x 5.25'' bays, and 6x hard drive/expansion bays, same price as the sonata

this thread is awesome.. it is giving me a whole bunch of ideas to upgrade my computer. i am currently looking for better power supply and some cooling system (currently 300W .. looking for 400W, because my room tends to get humid at peak hours -- noon -- ) .. and a better graphics card .. preferably an in board memory graphics card.

Wish I had gone with the Antec SLK3700BQE tbh, cheaper, better ventilation, and quieter, with the front intake fan in front of the hdd tray instead of behind like in the sonata.
I've had to do loads of mods to my sonata to get it to cool effectively, including cutting the front bezel, widening the bezels under intake gap, seal up the drilled 'antec' holes on the sides, made a side cpu vent and a fresh air duct for my modded psu.
The BQE also has 4 external 5.25" bays, better than the sonata's 3.
Wont be long now til I get an Evercase 4525B tho :D |

but the BQE and sonata have 120mm fan mounts, which can push the same amount of air as 2 80mm fans for considerably less noise.
120mm fans FOREVER!!!! :D |

Thanks for the recommendations guys.
While we are on the subject of cooling;
does anyone know how to hook up these bloody cooling case fans?
Until I can buy a new case, I tried adding a 80mm intake fan for my current case. It has both the 3-prong and and 2-prong plug. I tried plugging the 3-prong into my mobo but it doesn't work.
I know it was the right spot on my mobo, 'cuz I checked the manual.
Does anyone know where I hook up the 2-prong piece? How do you hook it up to the PSU? |

PSU's have 4 pin molexes, if your fan dont have em, you canna connect.
Careful about plugging fans on the mobo, if the fan has a high wattage, it can blow the mobo.
I got a fan controller with my setup, which draws power from a single 4 pin molex form my psu, and it has 3 channels which accept 3pin connectors from my fans and allow me to control em. |
