Mr.Mystery's percussion tips - Part 1

All right, here goes.
Mr.Mystery's step by step guide on percs (Part 1)

Let's start with the most basic pattern:

Basic beat.
A beat, a clap and an open hat with a closed hat every offbeat.
Pretty dull, huh? Well, let's see what we can spice it up with.

What do you say we put in a couple of hihat patterns?

First, this very simple pattern with a touch of delay:

What it sounds like

Then, a bit more complex one but still quite easy to do. A bit of reverb, delay and panning to give it a bit of presence:

What it sounds like

Now, put these two on the basic beat pattern and this is what you get:
Sample
All right, a good start, isn't it? But that's not quite good enough yet.

Now we'll add a simple closed hat and a shaker, panned left and right respectively (not all the way though):

What it sounds like

Throw that on top of the beat again:
Sample
Now things are really starting to get busy, but let's add even more steam.

This here is a standard tambourine sample with a very simple offbeat pattern, but it has A LOT of delay and stereo echoes:

What it sounds like

How does it sound with the beat then?
Like this

Now, on to the final boost. Here we have the beat in full force with a simple drumloop added in the background as well as the ever-so-lovely ride playing 1st and 3rd beats:
Beat in full power!

Now, of course it's gonna sound a bit boring all by itself so as a closing here's how that sounds in the tune:
Full Sample.

And... well... that's pretty much it! This is how we constructed a pretty standard uplifting trance beat. On next issues I shall be showing you more complex patterns, like breakbeats, shakers, bongos/congas etc. That is, of course, if you find these helpful at all :p

That'd be Echano, (aka MaRt on the forum). The song title, Tranquility.

And yes Mr.Mystery that was quite helpful. Thanks!

Now I must go back and rework my remix of Tenshi, please excuse me :p.
