(I can't seem to find a sample like that in fruity loops, and stretching a kick drum just doesn't work.)

Guide to making boom drops:
take an 808 kick with a very long decay and pitch bend it down. A must for drum n bass....

And uploading took me like half an hour....with the error included 45 mins

hmm.. thanks.. I'll try that..

whenever I pitch things down or stretch them, I seem to lose the attack, it just gooes ooom, and the hard kick at the beginning get's all loose.. I want it tight and punchy at the beginning, and like 5 seconds of earth shaking decay.

I can't even login to that place, so...
RavingLunatic
Here is my attempt..
3rd try on this hopefully it works this time.

*edit*, nope it didn't work.

214 k zip file.
I give up.

dude, forget it man :)
you've flooded my e-mail with those attemts, just upload it to myplay account or ask someone for ftp space.
RavingLunatic
huh? me? I didn't email anything.
Gil Shwarts
each time u or anyone else post here i get an e-mail notification...
RavingLunatic
oh sorry.. guess your getting another one right now then eh? :P
I'll stop now, I promise!

you can turn that off if you like.. I just check back everyonce in awhile to see if anything has been downloaded..

I don't know why I can't upload a 214k zip file though..
oh well..

and I still cannot download from FAW.
Gil Shwarts
something is wrong with the forums when it comes to sample uploads...
RavingLunatic
hmm... it was working a little while ago..
Pjotr G
about the boom drops...you do it wrong
i didn't mean you should slow the entire kick sample down...i said "bend"

so at the beginning, the attack, the sample is at normal speed, so you keep your "thump" and it slows down from there...like switching off the power on a playing SL1200...only less extreme

If you can't get a decent boom drop tell me now....and then i'll upload one tomorrow...too late now ;)

RavingLunatic
hmm..
I tried again.. not sure exactly what you mean..
where do I "bend" the pitch in fruity loops?

let's see, maybe attaching an mp3 will work?
*edit* nope.
Pjotr G
"where do I "bend" the pitch in fruity loops?" (didn't feel like quoting ;) )

I think this is easier to do with a sample editor.
Anyways, this is still a good opportunity to learn about LFO's
*starting up fruityloops*
load up a kick sample with a looong decay (boooooooooom not boom)...but at normal pitch
click the sample so you get to the "channel settings" screen
where it sais "midi | smp | ins |......" etc click on "ins"
where is sais "pan | vol | cut| ...." etc click on "pitch"
make sure you let the sample loop some in the background so you hear what you're doing (like letting it hit only on the first tick and loop the pattern)
highlight "TB" in the LFO section
make sure the sine wave is highlighted
move the "att" (attack) hard to the left...about 7 o'clock
move the "amt" (amount) knob around a bit and hear what it does. For the boom drop have it pointing at about 11' o clock.
Use "spd" to determine the speed at which the pitch changes
Fiddle around with everything so you get what you want. If you ever switch to a hardware synth this sorta stuff is common..so now you got an edge ;)
