ASOT is a victim of it's own success.
18 months ago ASOT was fresh and played new original tracks and was a good indicator of what was gonna be big on the dance floors for the up coming months.
Now it plays commerical generic pap with the odd diamond in the rough.
BUT i wonder how much of that is down to Armin and how much of that is down to the men in suits?
I wonder how much freedom of choice Armin has in his playlists for ASOT or wether he is 'told' to play a tune because its getting a release on a certain label and the men in suits know how many ppl listen to ASOT all over the world on the internet and then DL the shows later after someone has ripped them and put them on the hubs.
And because Armin has played it 4 times in a row all those ppl that listen to ASOT will go out and buy it.
These men in suits are not stupid, they know a good majority of the listeners wont buy the vinyl, they will DL the mp3 from a hub but it still increases the hype of a track and it will get more sales than it would thru the normal channels.
I would dearly love to see Armin's contract with ID&T and see how tight they are pulling his strings.

100% agree! |

| Hopefully tiësto's sales will go up, so ASOT has done its part :whip: |

i dont understand why people either love this track or hate it - it's very average, doesnt annoy me, doesnt excite me
there are plenty of tracks that are better, and plenty that are worse |

You guys shouldnt be so hard on Van Buuren, you try to fill a two hour show every week with new tunes, not always possible to bring in new quality tracks... Fact is, you still listen, otherwise you wouldnt know how he plays on his recent shows. Listening = enjoying, otherwise you wouldnt listen, right?
One more thing, if even Armin is cheese, what isnt cheese? Armin is one of the reasons you started liking trance, never forget that. |
communication & Blue fear were 2 reasons yes but not 'the' reasons, armins productions have slowly gone downhill over the last 5 years with most post 2002 stuff unlistenable for lack of quality.
As far as im concerned ASOT would be better as a monthly show where only the best tracks were selected, it would be less of a bore then, but that still doesn't mean that we agree with any of his track selections, as I said, nowadays 90% is poor |

Don't see how you could call Tiesto's version cheesy but not Ferry's... if anything the old FC remix is far cheesier. Tiesto at least gave the tune a bit of a darker edge.
You're welcome to dislike the track or even the whole genre for all I care, but saying the Tiesto mix is infinitely worse than Ferry's (and many people do) is sheer nostalgia getting the best of you. |

i know alot of you know this but im going to say it one more time cause im tried of tiesto getting credit for this. (if i get based oh well i only speak the truth)
TIESTO DID NOT PRODUCE THIS TRACK!!!
HE REMIXED IT!!!!
so it is not tiestos adagio for strings
IMO the actual title should be Willam Barbers - Adagio For Strings (tiesto remix) |

Welcome to the tranceaddict.com holy war!
BATTLE ON XENA!!!!!
Where you get to see all the usual suspects repeat the exact same arguments they've made the last 42 times this thread topic has come up.
I'd be remiss if I didn't stamp my existence in it with a post... so here it is...
Let's all share a prayer for the big names, because without them to fight for/against music discussions would be dead. |

I can use big font too. :p
William Orbit did not produce this track! Tiesto didn't remix William Orbit's interpretation!
If you think it should be Samuel Barber - Adagio For Strings (Tiesto Remix), then so be it. If you argue that, however, then it should be Samuel Barber - Adagio For Strings (William Orbit Remix) as well. But this is not common practice. They both covered Barber's piece, come to grips with it! |

I agree, Mystery, and while this thread isn't about you... I'd say your productions aren't very original either. :tongue2 |
I never said they were. What's that got to do with anything? |

Tiesto's remake of Adagio for Strings is a poor subsitute for Ferry's mix of it.

Personally, I love both of them, so....:) |
